I remember somebody posting a thread with some instrumental tracks done on MIA Strats, so I decided to post this with an instrumental track I made on my modified MIM :D

A friend of mine and I were having a nice conversation about Pink Floyd and David Gilmour, in which I informed my friend that I had picked up the DG20 kit. He requested that I record some Floyd / Gilmour covers (specifically, Marooned and Comfortably Numb). Did a few runs through Marooned (with the absence of a pitch-shifter, which I had but traded in last Fall) and got one done that I felt came out very well (4th time is the charm).

Without further adieu:

I'm running the Strat into my CPU with Gearbox (Line6) so as to create more of a Gilmourish sound (downloaded the settings for the "Have A Cigar" solo and did some slight modifications, using my ideal amp setings for treble, mid, bass, presence and adding on delay). I would have prefered to use my "actual" rig, but I would have been much more limited (Fulltone OCD can only do so much on its own...lookin' into a Fuzz and Delay pedal, Fulltone and Boss, respectively).

I will be working on Comfortably Numb and have begun discussing a collaboration with a vocalist. Due to my "going on tour" this August, we will not be able to begin our discussions until September...I hope to have the final product up by the end of the Fall.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Sounds good mike. Very nice! Great job I say!
Sounds like u had fun on that one!
That line6 amp emulation sounds pretty good I think.
Some of those overtones ur getting are very nice. :)
I like when u hit those gilmour sounding harmonics in marooned.
Very cool.

I also have a killer amp emulation program I use called Eleven.
It sounds unbelievable...
I haven't heard anything that even compares to it!
I will be meshing it with sounds I get from my real rig...
(92 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier half stack & also a new Fender blues Jr)
I have not yet made any recordings with it yet because
I am still trying to get my studio setup and running.
(I have extremely limited space)
I hope to have some stuff for everyone to hear sometime in the near future but it will take me some time.

You can hear a couple original songs of my work in our band Exploration X
Sounds good mike, thanks for sharing.

I'm gonna check out Eleven...another one I heard is supposed to be good is Guitar Rig, but I don't have any first-hand experience with it.

Sent you a F/R you your MySpace ;)
Unfortunately, the work PC won't play your stuff, I'll listen when I get home :D

I have used guitar rig also (I think it was guitar rig 2, but 3 is out now), it is also very good.
But eleven is even better. Read in depth about eleven...
They spent years developing it... Down to every little nuance...
Its very simple to use compared to guitar rig too.
Pro Tools is amazing.

Check out 'The I' (very hard & heavy song goes right into the guitar solo)
Also alot of people like "Future Alive" & even though its a long song check out "Here I come (acoustic)". That is only a small sample of our music.
We still have alot that is unreleased.
Accepted to our friends now... :)

Awesome , thanks Mike. MIM strats are great. A buddy of mine had one, I wanted to buy it off him, i mean the neck on that sucker was amazing.

I could do legato flow up & down the neck so comfortable. In some ways, that neck was better than a lot of other necks on very high priced instruments (Non Fender) but I won't name names hehe.

Keep it up Mike, love to hear other instrumental stuff. Us guys gotta stick together.

Very cool stuff guys. I also write primarily all instrumental stuff, but I know nothing about recording and don't have a band at the moment, so I just got a Lexicon interface and mic my amp just so I don't forget certain things. Then I add harmonies and stuff to the basic idea while trying to arrange it. All of the stuff on my myspace page was done on my MIM Straight Six, but my buddy said that I had too much "slap back" in the recordings so I'm trying to learn the program and how to do a mixdown and stuff. For now I just arm the track and play, then when I'm done, I just hit stop and that's good enough for me at the moment. Nothing is perfect as I only do one take and one track for now, but all of the material is written by me and played by me with no effects or processing just straight through the amp nice and dry. I have hundreds of these ideas that I think up everyday and then record them just to remember them and almost all of them are meant to be instrumental in nature. So if you can please check them out and let me know what you all think of them whether it's good or bad I really don't care. Thanks guys! I promise that I'll eventually learn the program and how to do a mixdown if I can ever get the Strat out of my hands while I'm in my studio...

shreddin, do you have a link? if you posted one i missed it. sounds cool. i love the idea of no effects, shows the qualities of an amp/guitar for sure.

most of my melodic instrumentals have effects for the space effect, but the rhythm guitars do not. I love nothin more than a good dry rock tone, this is the perfect sound for straight ahead blues.

i posted my stuff on cdbaby recently, it's all instrumental. 2 cd's hope you get to check it out.

lovely particularly liked 'marooned' the way the guitar stars a cresendo but instead of a 'wave break' at the end of it, it just builds tension.

WAY TASTEFULL
