Hey guys,

I've got a 2012 american standard strat with fat 50s on em right now but after visiting a local GC today I saw a 2015 American Deluxe Surf Green Strat for $1150 .

I've always loved the Surf Green color. That's what attracted me to it in the first place, but I'm wondering what are your guys' thoughts on this specific 2015 model.
Is it worth the price and "upgrade"? (I know this is subjective, but the 2015 strat felt better in my hands than my 2012 standard).

Keeping that in mind:
A Surf Green 2015 AmDlx is most likely the V-Neck version - contoured heel, compound radius, S1 switching, N3 pickups etc.
The whole AmDlx series is/was a discontinued product, and thus some parts may become hard to find in the long run.
On the price I won't comment; the (unused) ones in shops were sold with significant discounts.

But the forum politically correct answer is of course: if you like it, get it. One can never have too many Strats.

As jmattis pointed out, the Am Std and Am Dlx are 2 very different guitars. I have both, so of course I say yes, get the Am Dlx and keep the Am Std for something different. 8)

Hey guys,

Thank you for the input!
I recognize the two guitars are very different and it is indeed the v neck version of the strat.

The only concern I had was how limited this strat was and I was also considering alternatives like the Jeff beck model(which also is very different).

I guess the concern I have Is the pricing and if I am getting it at a good price. I'm in no rush to get another strat, it's more of finding a good price for a good axe.

Most of the time, limitations come from the player, not the guitar...
But seriously: with the S1 switch wiring, these are about the most versatile SSS Strats one can find. To get more tonal options from a guitar, one would need to go MidBoosts, HSS's and so on.
The N3 pickups are way covered in web discussions; opinions vary from love to hate.

A Beck/AmDlxV-Neck comparison falls totally to the this is subjective category.

I have an American DLX, American Select and 2 SLO's. I do not regret buying any of them!

It seems like a fair price, if it is speaking to you, go for it.

What about a Special? I have a surf-green one that I absolutely love. OK, I've made a few changes - a refret with medium jumbos and Switchcraft jack, plus I had to repair the trem - but for the lowest price US Strat I absolutely can't fault it. Lightweight too. I have a CS but like playing this just as much!

This colour's discontinued but there are plenty around 2nd hand. I'd factored in the refret cost before I bought (also 2nd hand) and I was still up on the deal. You might even like the jumbos, so could avoid that cost...

Cheers - Peter.
