Hello fellow guitarists/musicians. I have a question about a guitar I've stumbled upon. Found a 1989 fender Eric clapton stratocaster (pewter finish) for sale. Few discolorations on the fretboard from being played, pickups are still original lace sensor and the electronics work fine. I'm interested in buying but the guy wants 1200 for it, is this a decent deal? Besides the neck and what appears to be the letter on the pickups wearing away, it's really a beautiful piece. Body doesn't show any damage to the finish, still has the kluson tuners. Comes with a case (fender tweed and goodies) that he said are original... what all was included with these in 89?

Thanks

$1200 is the book price for a 95% excellent condition 1987-2001.
Sorry cant help w/ the case candy specific to the model, but I wouldn't assume anything out of the ordinary.
The book describes the model as alder body, 22 fret maple neck w/ blk dot inlay, 6 bolt vintage vibrato, 3 lace sensors, EC signature on headstock, active electronics, chrome hardware. It shouldn't have a soft V neck shape, they started those in 2002 when they changed to vintage noiseless pickups and TBX circuits.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply/input. I ended up buying , such a classic piece! The neck is the soft v, more noticeable in the upper 4 frets, definitely different than my '04 MIM Strat. On issue is the output jack isn't holding the cable, minor fix. Will post pictures once I'm on a computer and not my phone haha.

Congrats on the EC Strat! As you have found out, the EC's do have a soft V neck, something ALL of them have had from day one. I also have an '89 in pewter welcome to the club!

I have owned a number of Clapton Strats, but the two 89-90 Pewters I had were the best. I sold a 98 in Torino Red and a 89 Pewter to a pro player in Australia, He said he loved both the the Pewter was hands down a nicer guitar in tone and feel. So congrats. $1200 is on the highside for one with neck peel... but it you like it that is all that matters!

If I remember right, EC asked Fender to mimic the soft V neck profile of his Martin OM28 when they designed his signature Strat. Ialmost bought a 7-Up Green one back in the day.
