Found this listed as a 93-94 MIJ strat though the neck would mean it is an 02-04 CIJ strat if everything is legit. This would be my first Fender (I've only had Ibanez and Gibsons). Can anyone tell me if everything seems square based on the pics? Were there 02-04 CIJ strats that looked like this? I wouldn't know how to spot a fake so pointers or advice? What value would you place on it if legit?

The cosmetic blemishes don't bother me, but I want to make sure it is original and what it is advertised as (though the year is obviously wrong).

The guitar appears to be a legitimate ST57 re-issue built by Fuji-Gen.

The seller probably just mixed up the datings; MIJ+Q serial = 1993-1994, but CIJ + Q serial = 2002-2004.

I agree with Arjay that it looks legit.
Guessing the model a bit more detailed, (based on the pickup wire colors) it could be a ST57-58US.
And nitpicking as always, I'll disagree with Fuji-Gen and suggest either Tokai Gakki or Dyna Gakki. 8)

A possibility I hadn't considered.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the feedback. What do you think on those pickups? I would imagine there is no way of telling by that image alone if they are the Texas Specials or '57/'62 Vintage USA pups these typically shipped with (or something other) is there?

From what I can tell they are neither. Both the Texas Specials and the 57/62 pickups feature beveled pole-pieces. And the TS set has a RW/RP middle pickup which is recognizable by its black and yellow lead-in wires.

Good point about the 57/62 being beveled.

The Texas Specials here on Sweetwater are flat though.

That doesn't mean by any means that the ones in the pickguard shown are Texas Specials of course. I wish there was a way to tell. I don't have a seasoned enough eye to tell... they all look the same to me. =)

You better give that photo a second look.

Or have your eyes examined.

You are right... maybe I need my eyes checked. These Texas Special don't look beveled anywhere near like these 57/62. But it's probably just my eyes.

But as I've previously said. I have no idea what I'm looking at/for so I just have to trust you all as the experts.

The main thing isn't what a pickup set is called, but how it sounds...

Now that I got that out of my system: those pickups are not Texas Specials - in a 2004 CIJ Strat, the TexSpec Middle pup would have that yellow wire mentioned above.
To my best knowledge, those are Made In America pickups; they have the cloth wire, black (top and )bottom plate and are clearly AlNiCos. As to which exact series those pickups are, I'll just throw in the towel and hide behind that first sentence. Anything from '54 to '59...

If they deliver the sonic bacon, leave them alone and enjoy them for what they do.

I would however ditch those rinky-dink pots and the selector switch for something more befitting of a pro-level guitar.

Yeah, I was already planning on installing an Emerson custom pre-wired blender kit if I do get it.

Make sure that set includes CTS 250 KΩ volume/tone pots and a CRL or Oak/Grigsby selector switch. I'd also recommend a .022 mfd or .033 mfd tone cap but that's more of a subjective decision based on your own aural perceptions.
