Hello! New user here. :-)

Looking at possibly purchasing a '94/'95 MIJ Hot Rod reissue. It's got 21 frets and just two pots (tone/volume), and a Floyd Rose. Trying to figure out the pickup config but finding some conflicting information. Looks like a DiMarzio bridge?

Also, aren't these supposed to have 22 frets? Everything looks kosher on it and the owner says he bought it new though.

cheers!

Pics, please. Lots of them.

Could be a HM Strat, or just about anything. Plenty of MIJ models, even more of fakes.

And BTW & AFAIK, "Hot Rod Reissue" was never an official model name - although 'everyone' knows which guitars it means.

+1

Hundreds have fallen prey to those scams.

Caveat emptor!

Hello! It took a week for my message to be approved by moderator and things have happened since. Turns out the Strat was not a "Hot Rod Reissue" but a MIJ Squier with Floyd Rose II which explains the 21 frets (the first pic I got of it didn't show the headstock so didn't realize it was a Squier!). Ended up taking a liking to it and picked it up for what appears to be a fair deal. Guy I bought it from had it since new, N00 serial which should be 1994/1995 if I understand it right. It's not a Fotoflame finish but solid black. Really nice guitar overall, though I am still unclear on what pickups went into this exact model.

It seems veeeeryyyyy lightly used, and not a speck of rust to be spotted anywhere on the Floyd Rose (I gather this is not an uncommon problem).

Just trust the horse's mouth - Fender themselves chose to call it a Fender, so it is a Fender - although a "Squier series" one.
I'd bet my imaginary wager those were made at the same Fuji-Gen factories as other Fenders and Squiers at the time...

Forget the small print, enjoy and play on, play LOUD.

Oh, I have no worries; but it helped clarify why it had 21 frets instead of the 22 the "Hot Rod Reissue" Fenders do. :-) And yes, it will be played LOUD!

Wow, I haven't been on this forum in ages. I was surprised to find your thread on my favorite Strat model. Congrats on the new guitar.

The guitar you have is often mistaken for the MIJ HRR Strat. They are very similar. In fact often people will sand of the Squier Series logo, and try to sell them to unsuspecting customers as HRR Strats. I have quite an obsession with HRR Strats. I just purchased my 5th and will be posting a new family pic shortly.

From what I've heard and read on the internet, those Squier version of the HRR are far superior to most other Squiers.
