I'm thinking about trying a set of D'addario EXL115W (11-49 with a 21 or 22 wound G).

Since the pole pieces are preset, I'm hoping someone has tried a wound G with these pups and can give me some feedback on the string balance.

Thanks!

Why not buy a set of EXL-115Ws, and also buy a single string of 0.018" gauge.
You can get D'Addario strings as single strings.
I think you'll probably end up finding out for yourself, and if they don't suit you'll know pretty quick, and be able to swap out the offending string.

You might find that the wound string snags in its nut slot, so be prepared for some adjustment there too.

What I do for non-flat wound strings is buy a very light set like .008 and a single sixth string (deep E), then shift every string up and save the leftover first string as an extra for other guitars. It works great.
Yeah, you may have to adjust the nut if it's a relatively new guitar; running the new G string up and down in the groove[*] will adjust it exactly. Then a little pencil lead for lube, and it's all groovy.

[*] Or cut off a couple of inches of the end of the string, which you're going to cut off anyhow, superglue it to a piece of wood, and you have a perfect nut file for that gauge.

I like playing with a wound G for some music. Especially fingerpicking.

I tried 'em once on my '98 AD Strat, equipped with VNs.
I went back to a solid string but I can't remember much else.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Not yet, I'm going to do something close to what was advised here only on a Tele but gonna stay closer to tens and round wound w/ a subbed single G.
