While the "Standard" is MIM, it wouldn't sell for anywhere near $700, not even new. If the 2016 was an American Standard, then I would go for that over the 2001, as the 2016 has Fat 50s pups.

Both guitars that I referred to in this thread are made in USA.. an elderly grandmother bought the 2016 and decided she didn't like it after barely playing it.. It was in brand new condition and came with the fender gig bag..

If the 2016 came with a gig bag it might have been an American Special instead of an American Standard - and $700 is not a good used price on an American Special as they have an MAP of $999 and typically have a street price of around $850 brand new. Did the 2016 have the large headstock and a 6-screw tremolo, or did it look pretty much like the 2001 you bought?

The 2001 is a nice looking Strat by the way, and it sounds like you got a good deal on it.
Exactly. Don't look back. I've always been a sucker for buyer's remorse and it can ruin the experience. A new USA Standard Strat would have a hard case. If not, why not? ChasB, you got a great deal. An "elderly grandmother"? :)
