I recently rejoined the strat-owning fraternity by purchasing a gorgeous 1988 American Standard. Although pristine, the guitar came with a cheap and flimsy hardcase, which I would like to replace. I would like to get a case the same as, or similar to whatever the guitar would have been supplied with back in 1988. Can anyone enlighten me as to what I should be looking for?

It would have been something similar to this.
The logo would have been different but the case would have been about the same.
Back in those years the "plush" was often reddish in colour.
Sometimes orange.
The logo was more like a flat plate, riveted to the case near the carry handle.

Thanks BMW-KTM, but the link appears to take me somewhere else. Could you possibly re-link for me? Many thanks.

We've been having some trouble on the forum lately with posting links.
Half the stuff guys post I can't see and vise versa.
It's been speculated it might have something to do with what country you're in.

You might have better luck if you try to find it yourself.
The case I linked to is:
Model #: 0996180320

Maybe the best way you might find it is to use the "Products" drop down menu at the top of this page and select Accessories.
Once there find the search bar in the top right side of the page and type "cases".
Then find a product called:
Fender® Pro Series Guitar Case
You may have to click on "Load More" at the bottom of the page to find it.

Note:
I forgot to mention in my previous post(s) that the new version of the case has different internal layout.

......And is made a helluva lot cheaper than the original G&G cases of the era.

:x

There are many cases available for your Strat. It all depends on your budget and how
much protection you need. I have several for my guitars but recently got a Mono Vertigo
and it's very solid for short distance commutes :

One of these will run you about $250.

G&G cases aren't what they used to be either.
I learned that after I built my Parstocaster and was looking for a case for it.

I actually kinda like the new Fender Deluxe Moulded cases.
My 2013 AD Jazz bass came with one and I have to say it's pretty darned sturdy.
I had my doubts about the latches but time has shown they seem fairly tough.
Of course, that case bears no resemblance at all to what the OP is looking for...
