Hi there -first post here but long time strat owner/player

I recently saw some pictures from the mod shop where they posted a picture of a red strat HSS with a gold pick guard. I have been looking for one of these - any idea if this is a fender product as I can't find it on their website and googling it doesn't bring up any helpful results

I already have a sss gold pickguard which is anodised - looking for the same but HSS

Any help gratefully received :)

Plastic gold hss yes but to be honest never seen an anodised hss made by fender.
Geniune fender slotted back plates are pretty hard to come by as well and the ones with round holes even rarer still. Wish they made them as after market. :D

Fender part number for the plastic "Gold Mtllc" HSS pickguard is 0064010000; it was used in AmDlx series.
The matching back plate is part# 0068043000.

This gold pickguard is made from vinyl, the OP did mention of a gold anodized pickguard routed for an HSS setup.

Aluminium Gold Anodized Strat Guard with 11 screw holes positioned for MIA HSS guitars.

Cautionary note:
Aluminium, anodized or not, scratches very easily and will leave black-ish grey residue on your hands.
Requires a great deal of cleaning/polishing.

Just wipe it down with acetone and lacquer it.

Lacquer and sweat don't play well together. A more durable clear-coat choice would be semi-matte urethane.

I'm not sure that either are likely to work well as aluminium requires an etching primer to get anything to stick to the anodised surface. I'm not aware of a clear etching primer although there might be something from the glazing industry. Long and short, it is what it is.

You shouldn't get residue off the surface if it has undertaken appropriately as it is a molecular change to the surface of the aluminium. If it degrades it is perhaps indicative of the treatment being too shallow. The depth varies subject to its intended use with internal grade being around 5 microns and external 25. This also hardens the surface.

I agree that SHOULD be the case, John.
I have a number of anodized aluminium parts on my Beemer.
I'm pretty sure BMW is a company that doesn't take shortcuts on things like that.
Nevertheless, the sweat in my hands will pick up some dark grey smudge with repeated handling.
One light touch or swipe doesn't seem to do much but repeated touching eventually makes me dirty.

I don't mind so much because then my hands match my mind.
