It is proving to be a relatively expensive project with over £100 spent on materials alone (including extra nozzles). Granted some of the materials may not get used, or only used in part, but as this is the only one I am planning to do (unless I spot another project guitar that I can sneak in under the radar). As it is it is all cost directly to Odee.

A bit of a disaster before we start in that SWMBO has declared she thinks blue is a strange colour for a guitar. She also doesn't like it with the obligatory mint guard. "C'est la vie" or "Such is life" as they say in France :-)

Yes, but it's a project, isn't it, not something you're looking to make money on!

Re the missus, agree with Arjay's succinct comment! I'd've thought she'd just be pleased it's going to keep you from getting under her feet for a while! And I saw a similarly finished CS Strat at Guitars4You some while ago and it cost well over £2k, so she should be pleased at the bargain!

Although I'm not a fan of spraying over an existing top coat, what you're proposing is (unless I've misunderstood you) what Fender often did way back when. If you can relic the blue to get some of the sunburst showing through, that's going to look like a high-end relic! Quite difficult, I imagine - best of luck with it!

Off topic but can I ask?... I believe you got a block from 'kevinh3324' on eBay for Odee? Did you get just the block, or the arm as well - the one with the shorter thread and Delrin sleeve? Any good? Looks a very good deal at £35 delivered - too good?!

Cheers - Peter.

I've seen a new Daphne up close with the mint pickguard, and I almost bought it. The mint pickguard was not the reason for my holding back. However, the original '62 Daphne that I used back in the day had a stock pure white pearled pickguard, John. Cost aside, maybe, you could go that route with some acceptance?

At the end of the day it is just a hunk of metal. A very nice precision machined hunk of metal. Mine was the dead standard replacement but included deeper holes if I wanted to use bullets. I have no hesitation in recommending him based on my experience.

It is a big improvement over the MiM white metal that was in CW. Not so much of a change on Odee as he arrived with a steel block as standard, but I used the new one as it was easier to rust.

With regard to the blue and my dearly beloved... She is just going to have to live with it. It was that or red and I don't like red.

I am going for blue over sunburst if I can pull it off. My only issue is getting the story straight in my head. The sunburst is so wrecked that it might suggest many years of hard use. If the blue then looks ancient over the top I run the risk of creating the equivalent of two lots of 50 years of wear.

I am hoping I can get something which looks like it was battered mercilessly for its first 10 years when it was then sold and refinished blue. The next 40 years it was played regularly and hard but treated with more care.

Most people creating a relic guitar don't give two nanoseconds worth of thought into the plausibility of the wear pattern they're attempting to simulate.

I'm impressed, John!

Thanks John, I might give him a shout as - if you recall - I had the problem with the Callaham VN on my Special (and that's the guitar it'd be going on). Need to make sure that if I can't get full trem movement - because of some difference in block dimensions - I can return it.

Re your refin, agree with Arjay - I'm impressed with your thinking. If you can achieve that look it'll be great!

Cheers - Peter.

PS: Been away for a bit, which is why I haven't thanked you earlier!
