Hi Everyone!,
I'm torn between buying Fat 50's pickups and the Dimarzio area set. I know that the latter has some great reviews, but I still want to keep the traditional single coil tone.
In that sense, I'm also thinking about getting a Boss gt 100 pedal, and I wonder if anyone has tried Fat 50's pickups or any single coil with medium/high gain while using the noise gate of a Boss pedal.
My question is, is the noise gate powerful enough for recording/gigs?, does it hinder the tone of the guitar?
Thanks!

If noise is a big concern for you and you're going to be using a lot of noisy effects you will likely want to use the silent type.
In my experience the Dimarzio Areas are pretty darned good at getting pretty close to single coil tone.

You haven't said what kind of amp you'll be using or whether you will "push" the amp into OD or not.

As to the question of noise-gates altering your tone, they are not completely transparent but some are pretty good.
It depends on quality of the unit.

Check out the vintage noiseless pups, they sound very good too!

Yep.
IMO, better than the versions that followed.
