Hi,
Maybe it is just my strings, but the E AND B are tinny fretting and even sound tinny open. I check the neck relief and string height spec for saddle and nut. - all good. I have 10's for strings. I'm running the David Gilmore EMG pickup package. I'm going to change out strings tonight.

Any thoughts on what else to check?

Thanks

You're not telling us what kind of a Strat it is, so these are somewhat general starters:

Check the nut slot, saddle, string tree to be sure there is nothing that affects the sound (& remember to lube).
Also check that all screws (neck joint...) and nuts (tuning machine posts...) are properly tightened (snug but not tightened with excess force).

Might be just the old string set syndrome, so it's possible the problem disappears with new strings.
But EMG's are sensitive to pickup height; test with lowering them on the lowE side and/or raising them on the highE side.

(OK I'll play) Has it always been like that or did you change something?

Any chance of a sound clip?
I haven't got a clue how what you call tinny sounds like to me.
While you're at it, pics of the overall setup would be good too.

Make sure you have a fresh 9 V battery. Not an 8.4 V rechargeable.

Don't forget to check for gunk buildup under the strings also, contributes to weak sound/poor tuning/etc.
A good cleaning may give an old set a few more days/hours of play.

No word back from O.P.

I'm guessing either:

A) It was the battery
B) It was a typo, and OP meant "tiny"

Old strings....how old? How did the new ones work out?
