I'm in the market for a strat. Originally, I was considering a new American Standard, but I stumbled across a used American Vintage Series '70s strat for sale. It turns out I know the seller and he's selling it for a considerably lower price than it would be new. It has an ash body with a natural finish. It's in almost perfect condition with no significant dings or scratches. The guy has 2 and he needs to get rid of one, so it's quite a deal. I'm wondering what people's opinions are about this guitar and if I should get it.

I'd jump on that one if the grain pattern looked good.

Hello Stash the Gumbo,

Bullet head truss rod nd big head,
ash body, sounds like a winning combination.

Best of luck with it.

Cheers.

I've got one in the natural ash and I love it. I've owned a few strat's over the years and this one is my favorite. I've had a love/hate thing with the pick-up's and was ready to replace them, but I'm learing to adjust for their lower output and have actually grown to like them a bit. They sounded terrible with a Peavy VK I had, but I recently purchased another Fender SCXD and it works really well with the Fender voices and clean channel on this amp.

If you've got a chance to get a good deal on one of these I would jump on it. One of Fender's best kept secrets IMO. BTW, the three bolt neck on these are not a problem like they were on the originals.
