I picked up a 1995 MIM Deluxe Strat yesterday at a local pawn shop and wondered if anyone could help me identify it a bit better.
It is a 3 tone sunburst. Rosewood neck with the “Deluxe” logo in gold on the front and the MIM serial number on the back. Has Kluson-style tuners. It has a pickup with the number 053326 in the neck and 053325 in the middle and a white Seymour Duncan humbucker in the bridge. Neck is similar to that on the more recent higher-end MIM Strats but it has more of a vintage radius and medium frets.
I have a “Blue Book” that is a few years old but it does not seem to have anything like this listed. It is, of course, very possible that the pickguard assembly (or at least the bridge humbucker) was not original.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked in my 1995 Frontline magazines/catalogs and couldn't find anything like you describe. The only model with "Deluxe" in the name was the US Deluxe Strat Plus.

The only MIM strat models listed were the Standard, Floyd Rose Standard, Fender Squier Series, Richie Sambora Standard, and something called a Strat Special. That last MIM model, number 013-5600, is closest to what you described. It says: "Special Series instruments are carefully updated versions of Fender's Vintage models" (so that could explain the Kluson-style tuners). It has 21 frets, poplar with ash veneer, humbucker with coil splitter switch in the bridge. It says vintage bridge but "blk hrdwr" too.

Does your guitar have black hardware? How about a Floyd Rose trem?

I suppose your guitar could have been made in late 1995, so the model might first appear in the Winter 1996 (Vol. 18 ) Frontline issue (which I don't have). Or it could have been a FSR (Factory Special Run) made in limited numbers for some big retailer (these things don't show up in the catalogs).

Have you searched eBay for similar guitars?

On Ebay, many guitars like this seemed to be Lonestar Strats – but I was under the impression they were all MIA. Mine does not have a Floyd, or black hardware. or a coil splitter.
It could have been a 1996 from the serial number though so it might be something that appears in a 1996 catalog.
Thanks for the help though. Maybe someone else will have more info.

It turns out I do have Vol 18 Frontline (Winter '96), but there's no MIM "Deluxe" model.

I am missing the other 1996 Frontlines. Most of the new models would appear in the Fall issue.

The closest thing to yours in the 1997 Frontlines is the Tex Mex Strats (I believe there was a USA and a MIM version). Did those say Deluxe on the headstock? I don't know, there isn't a big enough picture in the Frontlines to see for sure.

Thanks again for your help. I will dig around and check into the Tex Mex Strats. I am pretty sure the two single coil pus are vintage noiseless from what I can find on EBay. Maybe my Strat is just one that someone was trying to “make“ into a Lonestar!

If you could post some pictures here, it sure would help.

Does it say "Deluxe Series" on the headstock?

It does NOT say Deluxe on the headstock although it is definitely one of the Deluxe MIM necks. I am new to this forum and have no idea how to post pictures[/url]
