Hi. Hope someone has the tech knowledge to help me out here.
My formerly pristine 1984 Strat has come back from the shop with a blemish in the coating. It's like a wavy effect; I can feel slight bumps when I pass my finger over it.
There's a photo of it here https://www.flickr.com/gp/147993862@N05/n0B872
Is there anything I can do to get rid of it?
Thanks for your help.
Steve

What the sop owner or worker say about that, what they do to your guitar ?

Waste of time talking to the shop, they'd just deny it. Don't know what they did. Wondering if they put the guitar too close to something hot.

What was it in the shop for? Did you have it re-finished by them or some other type of repair? If they re-finished it...it is obvious they screwed up. If it was in for repair, I have no idea what would "melt" and/or "wrinkle" the finish. Seem's like if it were heat, there'd actually be a scorch (and/or bubbles) in the Polyurethane as well as waves or wrinkles.

This is a tough one. I would have caught that flaw and brought it to their attention before I left the shop, and they would never have been able to dispute it...but if you caught it at home, then they can just say "how do we know YOU didn't do that".

All very true. It was in for a set-up after I gave up trying to get it right. Didn't think I'd need to inspect it before I left.

wow I have never seen anything like that before......it kinda looks cool from the pic you provided....I doubt the damage was do from a heat source as it looks to large....I could see if it was smaller....but that looks large........that's funky

when you say you can feel bumps..........do you mean all the way along each line....or just bumps in general...if it is each line....sounds like some kind of liquid damage where the grain in the wood has been raised

It's where the wavy effect is - like ripples.

I took loads of pics but this was the only one to show it. It shows when you hold the guitar up against the light but the camera doesn't see so well.

All I see in that picture is the reflection of a venetian blind.

I'm with them, other than the blinds I don't see a blemish.
Although it looks particularly good for a 1984 but then those thicker finishes are pretty much bullet proof.
