I want to install aftermarket pickups in my Strat voiced for rockabilly twang. Anyone have any recommendations on good twangy pickups(preferably stacked humbuckers) full set or just the bridge pickup. :D

I'm old enough to remember Joe Bennett, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent (just to name a few) played rockabilly with just 'normal' Strats...

But if you want to go the 'equipment, not the player' route (*grin*), you could try rewiring the guitar so you have the bridge and neck pups together - that might give you a highs+lows, less mids sound. Also, to be serious, the Texas Specials original pickups are somewhat raunchy, so lower them to tame that.

If you go for the pickups replacement, I'd choose something very vintage. Lollars, Fralins, Fender CS54's (or Pure Vintage series, if you still find them) etc. Then get a Blues Deluxe, grease your hair and you're good to go.

For noiseless rockabilly spank I don't think these would disappoint......

http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/strat/h ... age-54-pro

Plug into a 5F6-A tweed Bassman re-issue and break out the Brylcreem.

I put Dimarzio Area pickups in my Special (came w/ American Standards instead of Texas Special's) and haven't looked back. They are well built, balanced and full of the sweet stuff.

Thanks so much for your thoughts folks, I am going to try the Area54s. I already have a Blues Deluxe but my hair days are history so I might never be as good at Rockabilly Guitar as I had hoped. Maybe I will just rub some Brylcream on my head

You'll be able to use your guitar's existing 250KΩ pots with the DiMarzio's but I'd recommend a value change to the tone cap. A .022 or .033 mfd paper-in-oil type provides a much smoother treble roll-off than the existing .047 cap. The Russian milspec types sold by Mojotone are excellent for this purpose.

Rawk on!
