I didn't think that anyone would leave the arm screwed in. I always take it off (once every two monts when I use it :D ). Same with the strap, the guitar just doesn't fit in the case properly with it.

That's funny, a dream I had a long time ago is what sparked my response to this post.
(I was looking in my case for my trem arm.)
Same kinda thing, ended up on stage with Jimi...
We were exchanging riffs back & forth...
Doing really cool semitone bends on some super blue sounding notes.
It was definately a dream but it seemed so real...

I asked the guy from Fender about that. The case you have to force close if you want to leave it in. I leave mine in becuase I'm afraid that if I keep removing it putting it back in removing it putting it back in removing it putting it back in that it's going to strip the threads eventually. I had one Strat that the tremelo did strip already. The guy from Fender told me as long as you can get the case closed it should be OK to leave it in. But wouldn't you think after all that removing it and reinserting it over and over and over again that your eventually going to strip the threads anyway? He also told me the reason they put that little spring in the hole is to prevent the tremelo arm from crossthreading. On my Strat I bought back in the 70s I always left the bar on with the case closed, now I don't know if that stripped it, but my bridge never pulled off my guitar or anything that bad. Either way I would think either way whether you leave it in or keep taking it out & reinserting it a million times, it's going to strip no matter what you do. How far do you guys screw the bar in, until it hangs when your done whammying with it or do you tighten it up a little bit? I just let it start to get a little tight and then back off a turn.

After ten years of taking mine off and putting it back on almost everyday, I have yet to strip it. I couldnt imagine putting it up with the whammy still attached. I cant think of any positive reason for leaving it on. It would put unnecessary strain on the entire guitar.

How far do you tighten it in? Untiil the bar drops or swings down when your done whammying it or how far do you come until you say to yourself, I think I better stop tightening now?

Yeah, I know but do you know that's if it's also in there to lose and get a partial grasp on the thread that it can also strip it to. It seems like it's a no win situation to me.

Yes back in the 70s when I bought a Strat I took it out one day and the arm just kept turning & turning without stopping. Then I knew right there that it was stripped. Seems like if you leave it on when you close your case that puts strain on the bridge, but when you keep taking it off and putting it on you can wear the threads out and also when it's in only partial of the way and not far into the thread when your whammying it can strip in all these ways unless Fender would put on a bigger thread. Like I said to me it's ano win situtation. When mine stripped I always left in on even with the case shut fearing that reason that from keep removing and reinserting I would eventually wear the threads out and strip it anyway, but that did no gogd either. What do you think?
