Has anyone with an Eric Johnson strat encountered this?

I bought my EJ strat the first part of this year. It plays wonderful and I love the sound of the pups, but I have a terrible time with the static discharge popping back through my amps. This is not the normal 60 cycle hum from the single coils. It pops back through the amp when I touch any metal part of the guitar, including the strings. It is so bad, that I can not do any recording because of the popping, and it affects low volume live performace as well.

I took it back to the store to have them check the grounding and was told that everything is fine and it's just the pickups that are spec'd on this model. I checked other EJ's at other stores and they all have the same problem compared to other strats.

I got fed up and attached a grounding strap to my body and to the springs on the back of the guitar (it is open to replicate the '57 strat it is modeled after) ... it completely eliminated the static discharge...dead quiet.

Any ideas on what could be done to fix this so I don't have to ground my guitar to my body everytime?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Put a Bounce dryer sheet under the pickguard.

Mines never done that, but whoever looked at it missed a ground problem somewhere.

I dig the Bounce idea!

Chet you could trademark it.
And exaggerate the truth

"Chet's 'Feathers', Special high-technology anti-interference sheets" :P

"49.99 for 12, can't beat this breaktrough discovery!"

"Havin problems with your feedback? Throw a Chet's Feather under the Pickguard!"
