Hey there brothers!!! I was just wondering if there was ever a strat made specifically for the shredder other than the Yngwie strat. I just sold my Yngwie strat because it had NO sustain at all for chording, but it made speed effortless. What I'm looking for is a strat with either 1 or 2 humbuckers (no single coils), a floyd rose, preferrably 22 jumbo or medium jumbo frets, a maple fretboard (no scallops either), controls down and out of the way (preferrably just a volume control with no tone controls), and a big reverse headstock. I have talked to my local Fender dealer about a custom shop axe, but he said that the price really couldn't be justified for what I'm after. I'm somewhat new to Fenders as I've played Jacksons for the better part of my life, but I LOVE FENDER STRATS!!! You dudes seem to have more experience with Fenders than I do so that's why I'm posting the question here. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKS in advance...

I've had the action pretty low on a strat before. Problem is fret rattle. Strats can rattle out sooner than some other shorter scale instruments. Strats really shine with a moderate action. I set my strats to the suggested setup from this site and it works great for me. Keep in mind that I hammer my strats pretty hard and use a .73 dunlop pick.

I'd say that you could make it shreddable. Try the action at 2/32nds at the 17th fret, with a neck relief of 0.090 which is the thickness of an extra light high E string. Check your nut slot depth as well. I put a capo on the 3rd fret to check the clearance of the top of the 1st fret from the bottom of the string. If you can fit a piece of paper in there then that's enough. That setup worked on my strat with some slight rattle that was acceptable. It was also super low!!! It might not work for your guitar but who knows.

Hope this helps,

Good luck.

Joe

The cool thing about a strat is that it is an open canvas for modification.
You might consider getting a good strat & then swapping out the pickups & all that.
In fact u might consider the American Deluxe HSS...
It is an extreme strat & when setup properly can still stay in tune even when wammy bombing. lol
Even if u get one that is not an HSS, the new ones are routed for
humbucker - single - humbucker.
Also, u can put "mini" humbuckers in the single coil positions
(the mini's fit into single coil spaces but are still humbuckers)
Check out the iron maiden strat:
http://www.rockexplorer.com/ElecGuitar/ ... aiden.html
it has mini humbuckers in all 3 positions...

The Straight Six Stratocaster has a single Bucker and one knob and it is for volume thats it. Just 21 fret not 22 but I like mine and the Atomic bucker sounds good in it. It is what it is.

Is the straight six a current model?
I didn't see it here on the Fender web site.

The first strat that came to mind was the new Billy Corgan strat with3 Dimarzio humbuckers. If you put a Floyd Rose on, it could turn into a pretty descent shrddin guitar.

Bss hit the nail on the head

modding is about the only way to go for what you want i'd consider buying

this for the body

http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=1134700306
and save on expensive routing.
Nicko14 got a left hand maple fingerboarded locking nut ready neck that you can see in his project guitar thread. It looks the bees knees. he could tell you where to get em. Either way its going to be costly and require extensive work. you may be better off to source the parts from other manufacturers, remember charvel/jackson started out making replacement parts for strats. In my experience of floyd equipped strats the floyd detracts from the playability of the guitar. I think this is caused by the lack of individual string height adjustment in floyd trems, maybe kahler could be the way to go and save you on the routing. Personaly i prefer the standard synchronized tremolo mines set to pull up a minor 3rd on the G and a whole tone on the high E thats not too far off a floyd standard set up, its worth considering with good locking tuners. All the best though keep me informed as to how you go with it please.

Yes it is current it is a factory special run of 831 only a few places have them for sale. I bought mine from Elderly Instruments. I also seen them for sale from The Music Zoo.

Wow guys! Thanks! I just got back from another welding job and saw all of the replies. Well here we go... Action height doesn't bother me at all. Not being "Elitest" or anything, but I can still absolutely FLY with the action 1/4" off the fretboard and still pick every single note at that speed so that's not an issue to me. I already own a Straight Six Strat and I love it, but I added a Seymour Duncan distortion to it and now it's REALLY mean, but I wish it had 22 frets (I'm used to playing either 24 or 27 frets). I don't like the look of using a left-handed neck on a right handed guitar because the logo doesn't look right upside down rather than the correct way, and the older style bigger headstocks look really awesome reversed. I've never tried one of those "mini-humbuckers" so I don't know how they REALLY sound to be honest.

I did find an axe on e-bay that kind of fits the description that I gave, but without the reverse headstock and it has all of the standard controls. Oh well I suppose, it looks like I'll just have to do everything on my own to actually get what I'm after, but in the be all and end all of things one fact remains...I LOVE FENDER STRATS BETTER THAN ANY AXE THAT I'VE EVER OWNED!!!!!!!!! :D

I think that I'm probably going to buy another Straight Six and completely mod it into what I consider a "Shredder" axe even though it may be just a cosmetic thing. The reason being is that I can't put this one down long enough to do all of the mods to it. I did ask the local Fender dealer if it would be alright to add a 22 fret neck to the Straight Six and he told me that it would mess up the intonation so I shouldn't do it. I still think that it may be something to try just to make it easier to bend up to "E" on that 22nd fret at speed.

Once again thanks for all of the input brothers!!! I'm still listening so keep the ideas and recomendations flowing in please. YOU DUDES RULE!!!!!!!!!

If you were going to mod a Straight Six Strat then without a neck pickup in the way you could get Warmoth to build you a 24 fret neck for it, to whatever specs you require regarding headstock, radius, timber etc. Mind you, it would have lousy access to the top of the fingerboard, but you takes your choices...

And if you going that far, perhaps it would be better to just buy a body too and build from the ground up. Hmm. If you do, post some pics, will ya?

Cheers - C

Hey brothers!!! Time for an update...I've decided that I already own the PERFECT shredder strat in the form of my new straight six (I'll be buying more of them and giving them all different paint schemes as well). You're right about the original Fender trem being better than the Floyd also in the respect that it has individual string height adjustment. I just recieved my Schecter yesterday so I played it in my studio last night for a while next to my Fender and my Jackson  . The verdict is in...THE FENDER STRAT WINS BY A LANDSLIDE!!!!!!!!! So I'll be offing the Schecter and getting more Strats for sure. The sound, playability, feel, ect. of the strat is phenomenal! Especially with a Seymour Duncan Distortion in it. My only stipulation on any strat would be that it has to have an alder body with a maple neck and fretboard. After that, anything goes other than the controls have to be down and out of the way. Oh yeah the other really cool thing is that with the strat I tune it to "D" across the board and sometimes drop low "D" to "C" leaving the other strings tuned to "D" standard tuning and it doesn't even affect the trem at all!!! Try THAT with a Floyd Rose and see what happens  . I'd like to thank all of you once again for all of your help and information. Here's another math problem... FENDER STRATOCASTER + METAL + SHRED STYLE = ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!! ROCK ON BROTHERS!!!

I like the Straight Six and Vox AC30 together ROCKS! I am thinking of buying another and having a silver black paisley on the body and black pearl pickguard, should be able to get that at Pickguards.com

thats one of the only problems i have with the corgan strat is that it dont have a trem..

you could get a ynigwie strat and put some buckers in it and carve out the body for a floyd. other than that you'll have to custom order..
