Hi there,
This is my first post here, so thanks for having me.
I've got a 1974 Stratocaster here. Olympic White with maple neck. All the numbers are great and the pots etc date correctly. I got it from a friend who had it gifted to him in about '82(?) and it still has the protective plastic on the guard.Thing is, I didn't think Fender had plastic om the guard till the late 70's or early 80's? Is that right? There is copper tape inside the guard, so someone has been in there, but...not sure about this guard!? It looks right though..Can anyone help with this conundrum?
Cheers
Steve

Don't know. My recommendation is, take the whole guard assembly off. Put it in a box. Then put on a new guard assembly to your taste and play the damn thing.

70's Strat that still has the plastic on? It's like a scene from Spinal Tap.

I know this isn't really help, but I do remember for sure removing the plastic film from my Lead II when I got it in November of 1979. So they definitely had it by then.

John Simms has good advice - stash the original pickguard and put in whatever you want while you're playing it, then return the original if you ever sell it.
