I have a Strat with a tuner built in to the pickguard. Where is the battery and how do you get to it? Thanks.

If it's not shoehorned into the trem cavity on the rear of the body then obviously it's concealed beneath the pickguard.

There was one that replaced the volume pot called N-Tune. Looks complicated

How long do the batteries last?
N-Tune is powered by a standard 9-volt battery. This will power N-Tune for approximately 600 tunings.
From the link show by 64Galaxie

IMO, I'look first under the back plate where are tremolo springs.

Second choice; under the pickguard .

I will return guitar to original

I agree. Pedal based and clip on tuners are so good these days that I see little advantage in having one in the guitar.

I have one in my Sonoran electro/acoustic and that is useful because I never plug it in. But with a Strat it is always used plugged in and there is little of no effort to include a tuner in the signal path.

Man! That is dog ugly, and a pain to adjust your PUP height. You want that off the guitar as quickly as possible.

I agree with stratele52 and John Sims...don't like it, and there's too many more simple options out there that doesn't alter the guitar itself. Everyone's got their own tastes; but I would never have one myself.

Thank you everyone for your input. This Strat dates back about 15 years ago. As suggested, I prefer an in-line tuner for my rig and a clip on at home. I will probably just remove the battery to prevent damage from battery leakage.

Just to give a follow up: I changed strings and removed the pick guard. As many suggested, there was a dead 9-volt tucked away in the cavity. Since there are so many good alternative to tuners today, I didn't replace it. Thanks everyone.

I think you made a wise choice. If the battery were mounted in a separate compartment, such a tuner installation might've made sense. But it's such a PITA when the battery is mounted beneath the pickguard.
