I bought new bridge saddles for my 2013 American Standard Strat (USA), after sweat from outdoor gigs corroded the string height adjustment screws until they wouldn't turn. BUT The NEW SADDLES DON'T FIT! The package of Fender bridge parts from the Guitar Center says "Orig V Strat Bridge Sect Kit". The original saddles are 0.412" wide, but these new ones are too wide at 0.436".

I can modify them, but don't want to file off the chrome plating. Anybody else had this problem? Where and how do I buy original equipment Fender parts? Has Fender changed dimensions of their bridge parts since Strats were considered "Vintage"?

Fender makes about four or five different Strat bridges and as a rule, the parts are not interchangeable. It sounds like what you need is a saddle set intended for the "modern" vintage-style bridge which features 2-1/16" spacing. The saddle set you bought is likely meant to be used with the original vintage-spec Strat bridge that's designed for 2-7/32" string spacing.

If you didn't animal the packaging like I did when I made the same mistake, take them back and get the right set.

"animal the packaging" now that is funny, LMAO, that is essentially how I open most of today's packaging, with all the plastic molding

I hate that packaging with the melted seam plastic enclosure.
You want to look at something but you can't until you destroy the package.
It's just goofy.
I guess it's good for people who want to be absolutely sure the package has never been opened.

I find a pair of scissors around the edges works best.
Being careful not to cut my hands on the sharp plastic left behind by the scissors, of course.
I tried other methods with unfortunate outcomes.
I would be interested to know what is involved in animalling one of those packages.
Sheer brute strength?
Just rip it in half like it's only a wimpy little 4" thick phone book?

Sheer brute strength, and something to poke a hole in it, like my house key, if no scissors are around

It's good for preventing pilferage.

We're all paying for the thievery of a few.

For me it usually involves gnawing and stretching w/ my teeth, at least for the soft plastics. That sealed seam plastic is a PITA and requires whatever's at hand chef's knife, scissor's or the box knife.

I always carry a sharp knife. It has come in handy so many times that it's second nature for me to have one on me.

Knife, slide rule, pen, 9V battery, analog watch, hat. Those are the things I always have on me. I can't walk around naked.

I hope you carry it in a pocket protector.

Doesn't everyone? You never know when you might need to do tricky multiplication quickly...Although these days it would take me longer as I'd have to look up the instructions on how to drive it on my smart phone.

So true.

But it also protects the contents from damage and displays it in an attractive way to encourage you to buy it.

I remember the change when as, a boy, the toy shop shelves went from rows of cardboard boxes to lines plastic entombed shiny temptation. Prior to the change I would spend hours studying my well thumbed catalogue memorising the numbers of cars of my desire. That way I would know straight away, when confronted with shelves of end on boxes, if the car I wanted was there.

The smell of shops changed as well.

It has its padded pocket-protector like sheath. The amazing thing is that it has held up since the 60s, being in my pocket almost every day. Even vinyl was better then!
Of course, I use a calculator or phone app most of the time, but the slipstick never runs out of batteries, works well in rain and snow, or with frozen fingers.

Ditto with leather.

In 1969 I bought a brand-new Buck 110 Folding Hunter with leather sheath from the PX at Cam Rahn Bay, RVN. I still have the knife and the leather is nearly as fresh as the day it was made. By contrast I bought one of those same knives for my brother as a birthday gift about fifteen years ago and the sheath wore out in about five years, ultimately to be replaced by one made of ballistic nylon. I don't know if the leather was thicker on mine back then or whether tanning procedures changed in the interim but today's leather goods simply do not wear as before.
