Hi All,

Good to be here on the Fender Forums.

I have a question about the LSR nut on my American Deluxe strat. I would like to refret the guitar with jumbo frets. I am concerned that the new frets will be too tall for the LSR nut. Can anyone please tell me whether or not the height of the LSR nut can be raised to accommodate jumbo fret wire?

This is my major concern before going in for a refret.

In addition to the fret job, I would also like to know whether changing the radius of the fretboard would work with the LSR nut. I would like to go from the standard 9.5" to a 16" radius.

I understand that the changing the radius may not be feasible, but I am very interesting in knowing whether or not a refret with jumbo frets is possible.

Thanks

The LSR nut height is controlled by shims under the nut. Jumbofretting may result in need to raise the nut - but it's also possible the nut is already high enough. Your guitar tech must know all 'secrets' regarding this, if he/she/it is a good pro.

The 9.5" to 16" radius change would mean planing the neck before the new frets are installed, and you probably would have to get a new nut.

All in all, you could consider a replacement neck; the price class for it and the fret/re-radius job are probably close. Or just compound the radius at the refret job.

Just for fun, while it still exists on the net:

With what you write, you have the wrong guitar, better to sell it and buy the right one you can test before buy

You may not like the fret job or the radius job

Or buy a new neck as jmatis write

Hi there. Have you played a Strat with jumbo frets? If not, I'd recommend you go try a Special, which has them. I liked them on my Ibanez, but didn't like them at all on my Special. Very different neck, of course, and therein lay the problem (for me)! Fortunately, I'd already factored in a fret job and am very happy with the medium jumbos I have now.

But generally...

...I agree with that!

Cheers - Peter.
