I recently had a chance to play a number of the new american professional strats in various shops, and I have to say I am impressed. I have a 2009 AM Standard, and I prefer in particular the new neckshape, frets, and pickups (my strat has Fat50 in the neck, and Texas Specials in middle and bridge positions). I LOVE the satin neck finish!

The only thing I am missing is a red color in the line-up. My AM STD is Candy Cola Red, my all time favourite color for a strat. Or another option would be candy apply red, used in some of the other series currently.

Please please please ??!!!

I would be off to the local dealer like a shot negotiating a deal trading in my AM STD for an AM PRO Strat Candy Cola Red with RW fingerboard!

How about everyone else? Who would like to see a red color back in the lineup? If so, which one?

Candy Cola was a luxurious color finish and I'm surprised that Fender dropped it as an option. It would look outstanding on any type of Strat, whether contemporary or vintage re-issue.

Teal Green, Purple, Crimson Red (all transparent) and Montego Black Metallic for the American Elites would be cool.

All 'real' Candy colors are done with a gold/silver base, then the somewhat transparent color coat, and yet additional clear coats - so they're more expensive to produce.
On many models, Fender has gone to 'Mystic' or 'Metallic', which basically imitate the same visual effects lines, but with cheaper production costs.

But Fender's prediction (or their attempt to influence it) on the consumer's color preferences seems to be on the mauvish, taupish, tannish colors. After Desert Sand and Olive (camo colors, mind you...), I'm just waiting (/dreading) for the reappearance of Mocha Brown.

I like all Candys (CAR and Tangerine as favorites); and all Flakes/Sparkles; and Gold Leaf; and Paisley/Flower MIJ's; and other bling. I have an impression I don't like blue guitars, but Mercedes, Maui/California and Daphne/Sky Blue (etc.) make me question that.
But all in all, I choose all forms of White as my #1 favorite - it can turn into anything under stage lights.

That's just the metallic ones. You can get a really nice rich candy apple red by using yellow base paint. If anything, it looks more like a candy apple.

Probably one of the most common complaints on this forum, and I've made it myself - the lack of colours on new Strats. It's black, white, 'burst and one other (often wacky) colour per year. Or certainly that's all we get over here.

I and many others love the vintage colours (and I'm lucky enough to have three such Strats), and I'm always surprised that Fender rarely produces basic AmStds in those colours (except for occasional FSR). Just one vintage colour a year would do. Not everyone can (or wants to) afford the Custom Shop.

I agree, though, JM - white always looks good onstage. I like the guitar to be seen, rather than the old frat playing it!

Cheers - Peter.

No argument from me over Olive or Mocha Brown but Desert Sand is a color that was personally chosen by Leo Fender in 1957 for the then-new Duo-Sonic student guitar. It's actually quite becoming on a Strat when trimmed out with a gold-anodized pickguard and parchment plastic.

All the previous IMHO, IMHO, IMHO, of course.
"YMMV" (as a certain alien used to write) to both you and Clarence Leonidas. 8)
