This should be the part you need......

PICKGUARD SHIELD, ALUMINUM ’62 – P/N 0019699000

Arjay

That's a great full shield , will the 62 fit the 57 Arjay?
I suspect it would be close but you may have to drill a couple of holes in the shield?
I'd run a quick wire temporarily from the top tone can to the vol can, see if it works and take it from there.
Having said that I like the full shield! :D

Where's the shielding plate?
It should look like the picture below.

I dug around and found this https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index ... at.491946/

No, the '57 uses its own specific shield, which looks exactly like that depicted in stratmangler's post. It's smaller and covers only the control cavity......

PICKGUARD SHIELD, ALUMINUM ’57 – P/N 0019640000

The '62 shield can be used on '64 and later Strats but to do so requires drilling a single hole on the high side between the middle and neck pickups. An easy mod.

Yep, I guess sometimes you can look to hard at a problem and miss the obvious , I kept loking at the wiring and didn't notice the lack of a shield until the second time I opened it. stopped to the guitar shop and picked up a full shield, they did not have any 50's style shields, problem solved, all controls work.Spoke to my friend, seems the guy he got it from added a 3 ply pickgaurd, and never added the ground shield.[imgImage][/img]

First off, problem solved, so that's a big thumbs up, mission accomplished.
Thing is, the rosewood EJs already come with a shielding plate (click on the link just above the picture I posted), so why would someone take it off?

Looking good. The Eric Johnson must be one of the few strats to rely soley on earth continuity via the shield. Wonder if it was his own requirement? :D

Yea, really not sure why the previous owner decided to omit the shield plate when he replaced the gaurd, guess he never used tone controls and didn't notice the change?

Likely he forgot to re-install the shield when he re-assembled the pickguard-mounted components then, upon his discovery, decided it wasn't worth the trouble to correct his mistake. A bush-league technician.
