Does anyone know where I can get real good deals on Strats ,be it online or in store? GuitarCenter .com have advertised a 'Stratathon' for July stating a price too low to print. But when I called they just dropped a few bucks on it on models that dont sell v well!
Guitar Center used to drop their prices to jaw dropping limits but not anymore.

Call the House of Guitars in Rochester NY one of the largest Fender dealers in the Country.

Just as a folow up that was probably stupid advice to give .No one and I mean no one should buy a stratocaster guitar without playing it first. Every strat is a little different from the other and if your buying just based on the cheapest guitar chances are your going to get what you pay for. Buying a strat is almost a spiritual experience. You have to sit down with a bunch of them and find the one that sings to you. I played 12 different American strats and 4 different American Ash Deluxe and 4 different American Deluxe strats before I decided on the one I wanted to spend most of my time and energy with. In the end it was an American Ash deluxe in cherryburst that had the nicest, most playable neck and absolutely the best tone of all the guitars I played. Color was the least important thing to me...playability, feel and sound were the deciding factor and in the end it turned out to be the best looking of all the guitars there with the nicest figured ash of the bunch, but that was incidental to feel, playability and sound. I just lucked out on looks, and I couldn't be happier...add to that a case like Fort Knox and you'll have a kicka** deal, regardless of cost. The point is play several before you make up your mind, if your just going by cheapest price I think you'll make a big mistake and regret it in the long run.

Thats true but I have bought guitars over the net before and I think if you deal with the right place you should not have a problem if unhappy with. Plus some places will open the box and do a check list and then complete set up of the guitar then put it back in the box with the strings loosened slightly and then ship to you. ( Wild West Gutars, Elderly Instruments) to name a few. Not like some places that just ship from a warehouse and never check a thing. These one location stores can do a good job and ar easier to deal whith because most time the person on the other end has some knowledge. Another thing I do if I am thinking of buying from someone I am not framliar with I will do a Google earth search of there address and take a look at there building. I have seen adresses on web sites for products and when you look at thier address on Google earth its a house. Never deal with.

Thanks Lemonade for the spiritual advice which i agree 100 %.The problem is the Strats I am looking for like the Jeff Beck,Mark Knofler, vintage reissues are not stocked in many stores here in the DC area. These guys want me to place a special order on it,but paying upfront & then wait in silence. If I know a store that carries these specials I dont mind driving up even as far as NY., despite the gas prices. If I had to buy it online I might as well look for the best deal, because what they send is what I get.

GC really irritated me with the Stratothon "deal". I got my flyer, went in a couple of days ago, asked about the "Too Low to Print" prices, and was pointed to 4 versions of the HSS Highway 1 with special pricing. Anything else I asked about was full price.

Then on the way home, the radio ad tells everyone to come in this weekend for the deals. I emailed GC and told them they either needed to honor their prices all month as stated in the flyer, or tell people it was for one weekend only. I got an answer telling me that the prices were all month. Which means there's no point in my going back to the local GC, since they don't seem to know that.

They said the Too Low to Print prices were $50 below the lowest price they're allowed to advertise (MAP).
