I recently purchased a Clapton Stratocaster and wanted to get a new case for it. Does anyone know which style case came with this guitar back in the early 90's? The case that came with it is not worthy.

Also, the frets and fingerboard need a good cleaning any recommendations?

Thanks for your input!

The case would look like this:

The cases were tweed on the outside with with leather ends. The interiors were orange plush lined and made by G&G.

To clean the fretboard, just wipe it down with a dry cloth.

I clean the finger gunk off my rosewood fretboards with lemon oil and a toothbrush.
A good wipe-down with a soft cloth after to remove excess oil.
Maple boards with water and a toothbrush.
Wipe-down after to dry.
All strings off, of course.
Otherwise it would be a pretty time consuming job.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Old school: Zippo fluid and a cotton rag. And since there often is conversation about this: yes, it's nitro safe. The toothbrush mentioned above is nice for fret/fretboard seams. (Rosewood/ebony fretboards need oil treatments periodically, EC's should all be maple.)
High end: Choose a guitar cleaner/polisher product set from your favorite brand - even Fender has their "Fender® Custom Shop Deluxe Guitar Care System".
