Hey Guys! First post here. I'll get right to the nitty gritty.

My roommate has this beautiful Jazz bass which he was told is a Custom Shop J-Bass. It's got the active electronics, push-pull tone pot for active/passive, a Badass II bridge (probably added after original purchase), and active Bartolini pickups.

The big question here is the serial number that is printed on the back of the headstock. After doing extensive research, the closest thing I could find as far as cross referencing this serial to find out the bass's origins was that (according to this serial) it was made in Korea?

This is using the little information I was able to find on Fender's website and also on independent forums (this one included)

I am including a picture of the serial that is printed on the back of the headstock here:

In any case, it really is a pretty incredible instrument (not to mention that it looks rather sweet next to my Blonde American Standard Tele), I am just trying to find out where it's from and when it's from!

Thanks a bunch guys,
keep on playing!

Natty Pat

According to Guitar Dater, the only way the serial number works is if it is Korean made. All Custom Shop instruments come with a certificate of authenticity with the serial number and the model number, etc.

More photos would help and give us more to go on. Pics of the front of the headstock, neck plate front and back and the case it came with...Custom Shops all come with custom shop labeled cases.

Here is the info from guitar dater:

Your guitar was made at the
Korea Plant
in 1988-1996
Production Number: 80863305

Reposting this question in the Jazz Bass section of the forum will likely garner a lot more information. That's where all the real bass guys hang out at.
