I'm curios, I see these Fender necks all over ebay for sale and they are all brand new? Are they just a copy with a pirated label? or are the genuine fender replacement necks. I had heard you have to jump thru hoops to get Fender to send you a replacement neck and yet there seem to be an awfull lot of new Fender necks with the"Fender Straocaster" label on ebay. What's up with that? Just a knock off or the real thing? I did notice non of them had a serial number.

You have to jump through hoops to get an authenticated serial number stamped neck from fender. The rest are just new fender necks.
OH & also, my guess is some (probably not many) of them are not real fenders. I'm guessing that just cuz its ebay. lol

some are also necks that have been taken off other strats. it seems stupid but sometimes the body will break somehow and the person will just sell the neck as a real fender neck. and also this seems even stupider to me but some people will get a mexi strat and then eventually decide " i want a MIA strat", but they dont wanna spend the money on a new one so the will actually buy an MIA neck and put it on their MIM body and everything they can to make it more american. :? it's pretty stupid, i find that i usaully MIM strat necks better anyways.

Most of the Fender Strat necks on Ebay are the real thing. I've bought several. The do sell pirated necks & people snatch them up like their platinum. Most of the bogus/con artists/thieves that are trying to get over are kicked off Ebay. One of the sellers I have doubts about is "eddie-vegas" seems all his Strat necks are mutple shots in 1 photo with HORRIBLE detail. Makes you go ...hmmmmm?

You really can't compare an 08 Fender MIA strat to a MIM neck, they are night and day difference and one of the big reaons why American made strats are more expensive. The attention to detail on an American neck is head and shoulders above the Mexicans. That doesn't mean that you don't have the right to your opinion but if you owned both you would realise the difference. It is (once again) comparing apples to oranges. The MIM is a nice strat and a great beginners or novice guitar. The American strat is a proffesional grade instrument and consistently better quality, build and sound than it's cheaper MIM cousin in every regard. You can choose to play and enjoy whatever you want and you certainly are entitled to your opinion but saying the MIM strats are better is ludicrous. You get what you pay for. Cheers and enjoy whatever your heart desires.

I have bought a brand new pristine and genuine american strat neck from a seller on ebay...
You can actually get a pretty good deal if you bid on auctions ending on days other than fridays, saturdays, and sundays :D

Why would someone put an American neck on a Mexican strat just to say it's American There wouldn't be any serial # and everyone would know just looking at it. Seems pretty rediculous. I can understand putting one on as an upgrade to the mexican neck but why lie????

making lemonade i agree with you totaly that you can't compare them, that's what my point was trying to make was. it all depends on the player i personaly like MIM necks better cause i think they feel and play better in my hands. you think that MIAs are better probably for about the same reasons.

and also yes put an MIA neck on a MIM body and then saying your guitar is MIA is really stupid, but i know some one who has done it. and i have also seen some on ebay that people are trying to pass of as MIAs but they are really frankenstien guitars.

There's an interesting sidebar in the September 'Guitar World' on the booming busines in vintage guitar parts, some of which are commanding significant bucks. In this forum one particular name has appeared often, as a source of replacment parts. Without impeaching the sources or implying any illegal activity, I suppose it would fair to refer to these enterprises as 'guitar chopshops".

Considering the broad interest there seems to be, (reflected in these pages), in modding these guitars, one certainly cannot find fault with enterprising individuals who seek to meet the demand.

Doc

Peace to you also! I think it's great youlike MIM necks but they are not the same quality or workmanship of American necks. If it feels better in your hands that's great but your really comparing apples and oranges. The quality and time put into makeing an American neck far exceedes what goes into a Mexican neck. That is my only point when I say you get what you pay for. You can spend as much on a good American neck as you would on a used MIM Fender. Cheers!

if you check out the mexico factory tour link in the "are mim strats that good" the tour guide explains that mexico necks are made in corona bodies are not.

http://reviews.photoweborama.com/allthingsguitar1/fendertour/index.html

I own both and can vouch aside a fret dress theres not really any dfference. Infact my mim plays better than my hotrod i put that down to it being an unusual size 41mm nut 51mm 21st frett and more worn in.

The time and effort puy into the American neck as compared to the Mexican makes all the difference I have yet to find a mexican neck as well made as an American and I've been playing for 40 years (we'll leave out the 70's and 80's strats here). There is a real difference between the two and having owned both you are comparing aplles to oranges. The quality of the American neck is MUCH better than the Mexican neck. Unlike their Mexican cousins they RARELY need fretwork done (something quite common with mexicans) and you won't find sharp edges on the nut another common mexican complaint. If you like the 21 fret mexican than paly it but it is not as well made as an American neck and they are NOT the same neck. Alot more time and effort goes into the American neck. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. When you buy an American guitar your getting a proffesional grade instrument. A Mexican is a great starter guitar and a good novice and maybe even an intermediate players guitar but htey do not compare with the quality and sound of the American strat. I'm not knocking your Mexican just speaking from 40 years of experience ans I have played proffesionally...granted it was a while ago..but I never lost my love for strats (except in the 70's and 80's- those were Stratocasters dark years, but they did start turning it around in 89 though) Actually used to own a 68 strat...that was some guitar!

Back in December 2003, that was true about the necks. It isn't now. An even better, and more recent photo tour, is

http://picasaweb.google.com/meridianmus ... ryTour2006

where one can see that electric neck production is well underway.
