I am looking for a specific year 57 AVRI that is known to have thicker of beefier necks.
My Original american 57 Reissue neck circa 1983 is toothpick thin and unplayable to me. It is really not for me.
There are rumoured to be Japanese 57 Reissues with beefier necks.

Anyone has first hand experience of a specific year that 57 reissue necks where thicker ?
It can be either American or Japanese, doesnt matter.

Thanks

The MIJ '54 Strat re-issue necks are pretty beefy. I have one and it feels like the proverbial Louisville Slugger compared to other Fender necks I own. I wouldn't say it's fatiguing to play but it is a handful (no pun intended) in comparison to a '57, '62, or later edition.

Just beware that Japanese necks are a smidgeon wider due to metric/imperial rounding[*]. With individual wood variations and paint jobs, it can either be a nice tight fit, or require a tiny bit of sanding or chiseling of the neck pocket.

[*]: US neck pockets are 2 3/16", or 55.5625 mm. Japanese necks are 56 mm wide, so the difference is about half a millimeter.

Another one to consider is the 2004 50th Anniversary Gold Stratocasters (MIM) have a nice beefy V neck on them as well, more so than the 50's Classic Series necks.

Instead of hunting for a MIJ (or other) used neck, why not just order a custom neck from Warmoth or Musikraft or any other F-licenced maker.
They have different neck profiles, appearance can be chosen to look like a '57 neck, plus they offer a lot of additional options to really get you the neck of your dreams.
I'm thinking that with any new neck, your AVRI will be a Partscaster anyways. Keep the original, so you can reverse the mod if you ever want to sell the guitar.

@jmatis: Warmoth necks are nice, you are right ( my greatest fat necks I have outside my 63 strats are warmoths), but i want a fender neck and dont want to fake a fender logo on a warmoth neck.

@retroverbial: The 54 option sounds like a very good option thanks. I dont mind fat and wide necks, I play a lot of classical guitar, so fat wide necks do nt bother me in the least. It is when a neck is thin, then it forces your thumb agsinst your fingers and that is when my technique goes to the crapheap. Is the ST-54 neck a hard V or Softer Fuller V ???

@arth1 I dont mind the wider Japanese necks. The wider and fuller the necks are the better. I usually can make it work with a bit of persuasion.

I would prefer another 57 from another year (with a fat neck) to keep everything still a 57 reissue.

The one I own is deep gentle vee but I've seen subtle variations between different MIJ '54 re-issues.

IIRC Fender's AVS '56 Strat neck has a similar profile and might be worth looking into.

Thanks "Retroverbial" you solved another problem I had, namely a seemingly original 54 body for which i will probably never get an original neck. That will be a great compromise, with the ST-54 neck.

Thanks arjay:

I am still looking for a specific year of 57 reissue american or Japanese with a big fat neck. I know they exist. Rumours have it that the Japanese 2001 as I can remember has a very fat or full neck, but I could never find an owner to directly verify it. Just spurious group posts.

A friend of mine from church owns a MIJ '57 Strat re-issue and its neck is huge. I can't say what specific year it is but I know he bought it (used) in '94 or '95.

Arjay;
Next time you see him can you ask him for the serial number.

Or, he can enter the serial number in the link below, to see what year it was made and at which factory. It would really help. It is now years of trying to find the particular years with no help from the japanese sellers.
I know you know the following, but in case you forward a mail to him here is the method to get the year and factory;

"http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx"
It should be a "made in Japan" neck as the "crafted" obviously came later so he only needs to enter the serial and tick off the made in Japan box.

If/when I see him again, I'll ask.

That's all I can promise.
