Hey,

Just got my hands on my new American Standard '08 Strat and am loving it.

I have a quick question. I ordered some Custom Shop '69 Singles for my old guitar, but I sold the guitar to my room mate to get this new one before I got them. I know the general consensus here is to not replace the stock pickups on these guitars, but I'm wondering if I should anyway (I love the sound samples of them online) or if I should send them back.

Try out the stock pickups for a while.

Then put in the Custom '69s.

Keep the ones you like better.

Sell the other ones.

Thanks for the quick reply! Sounds like a good plan.

Also, nice play on my user name. It's been with me for awhile, been in the habit of using it :)

What AMP were those sample played on? Some squier pickups through a Soldano amp will sound much better than the best pickups through a Crate.

Leave the originals in and make sure you're using the amp you want for the tone as well.

They were sound samples on a website showing off some of the pickups they had for sale.

That Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr amp used in the clip is a very nice amp, around $1700 or so. Unless you have a similar high-end all tube amp, you won't sound like those clips. Don't waste money on new pickups that won't get that sound then. Use the good ones already on there and work with the amp you do have.

You can always replace with '69s but I would not get rid of the originals. If you ever wanted to resell it (which I guess is probably doubtful)You will always have the originals to put back in.
