Hi

As you all know, Stratocaster comes with two tone controls (except some contemporary models that only has one). This has been the case since the very first strat.

In my humble opinion those controls are completely worthless. They roll off the treble and leave me with a muddy undistinct sound that really doesn't do justice to the fine instrument they're mounted in. I've been playing for... 30 years (oh, God!) and I've never felt the need to ruin my sound with the tone controls.

But that's MY opinion. Honored readers of this forum - do you use the guitars tone controls? I'm really interested.

I use them as well, for various reasons. Most of the time, I'll have the tone all the way open, but at times, I'll roll it off slightly for a more mellow Santana tone, or all the way down to get Clapton's "woman tone".

And if I have it in the 2 (bridge + mid) pickup and roll the tone all the way down (my bridge is controlled by a tone), I can get a very unique wah-halfway-down honk tone out of it. Not something I use often, but pretty cool.

your kidding right. I wire my guitars so the middle pickup is full tone all the time and no control. so i can have the bridge or neck tone completely off. Possitions 2&4 like this on a driven amp are some of the most distinct strat tones ever Humbuckers just dont get that sound they lack the attack.

I use mine, I really only have one because the bottom tone nob is actually a db boost. I don't usually back off the tone nob, and if I do it's never much.

My MIA has a "true" tone pot and a TBX Control (Treble/Bass boost). I use the Tone to balance out the boost or give it a lil extra ooomph, depending on which pickup and how loud I turn up my amp (use Treble Boost to keep the Bassman from gettin muddy at high volumes).

My MIM has a EXG Control (Guitar Expander- Treble & Bass Inc, Mid "scooped") and a SPC (Strat Presence Control). I've been toying with these lately, found a nice Gilmourish sound, but that's thru a digital processor (Line6 Gearbox)...

I used to feel the same way you do. I have discovered that by converting all my guitars over to a "Treble Bleed" circuit I have more/better tone control.

Absolutely… I go from full 10 all the way down to 2 depending on the sound. I like tinkering with the sound as much as possible wit out having to resort to pedals. I do mostly keep the tone @ 10 but it’s nice to manipulate the tone as well

I dont, as a matter of fact I didnt add tone pots to my new american strat project just the volume pot in the second pot position (where a tone pot would be) because the position where the volume pots are usually placed bothers me.. my hand always rolls it off when I'm playing ... so my answer would be no....
out of my six guitars only my MIM (which actually doesnt have tone pots but an EMG SPC and an EMG EXG) and my ESP kirk hammet model have only one tone pots....

When i first got my strat i never used them, but it was basically because i didnt know how. Now i change them up from time to time to differ up the sound or craft a unique tone with other eq's.

If you want to hear what the tone controls on a Strat can really do .......
listen to Rory Gallagher's " Irish Tour 74 ". Particularily on " A Million Miles Away", Rory manipulates the tone and volume controls amazingly - you have to hear it yourself to appreciate what he is doing - I GUARANTEE this will change your mind about the tone controls. As a matter of fact, Gallagher achieves a wah wah effect occasionally using the neck pick-up and turning the tone control quickly - try it yourself !!!!

It is not often, but yes I use them.
Almost never use them heavily, usually just slight adjustments.
If u do not use them, maybe consider a modification of some kind.
