i used to think, strings were strings.
chrome sound great but take a toll on the frets, so do steel
nickel sound good and are less abrassive on the frets.

GHS boomers, fenders diadrios which ones have you guys tried and get warm sounds

I just switched to D'Addario .010 XL strings and like them a lot. I have not compared them with any other .010s though. I will keep buying them because I am happy with them.

Strings are a personal preference. Best thing to do is to try out a bunch of different brands and find the ones that you like.

well i have a set of diadrios 10s on my hwy 1, i like it, but ive read alot on ghs, i used to have fender super bullets, super 250s but 9s.
ive heard people swear by ghs
some say eb super slinkies sound great but break easy
all steel and chromes can be damaging to your frets.

Can't go wrong with GHS Boomers.

A lot of people don't like the Dean Markley Blue Steels, but I think they are great if using a lot of neck/middle pickup selections together.

I fully agree with CAFeathers, play as many as u can over time...
I have been playing D'Addarrio XL 10's on my 93 strat since like 95.
Image
Same as RudyH is using. They are great strings...
Some types of strings can have a profound effect on your tone...
others, not so much. Experiment with them...
I personally have no use for a string gauges larger than a set of 10's.
My new strats will have 9's on them unless I change my mind & go bigger.

dean markley strings sond great, the steel qualities react better to the magnets, they are more ferromagnetic than the nickel plated.
however, i have read that they were your frets out faster.

i also have diaddrios 10s on my hwy 1, they arre great.
they sound very or maybe even to bright down at the be strings 17 fret down.
maybe pickup adjustment issue?

any negatives on diaddrios or ghs boomers?

I make my own Custom sets. I like Flatwounds and 9's or 10's, There are very few Flatwounds that come in any guage smaller than 11's. SO, I take my E, A, and D strings out of Dean Markley Flatwound Electrics and my G, B, and e strings out of Dean Markley Blue Steel sets.

Persosnally I love Elixer strings. They are my personal favorite and right behind them ernie ball super slinky and third but not last GHS boomers. You've got to try alot of different one to find the one thats right for you and if your like me, depending on the day, it could be ant one of the 3 above.

DR tite-fit 10-46 I play these strictly and they are bright, lively and last longer than my old choice. (GHS Boomers)
