I bought a Korean made Lite ash Stratocaster in 2004 and it was a nice guitar loaded with Seymore Duncan single coils. On taking it apart for a close inspection I noticed that the body was stamped "Made in Indonesia" are all Korean strat bodies made in Indonesia? I know some Bullet and Squire bodies are made in India...Are Mexicsn bodies all made in Mexico or are some of the specialty guitars i.e. Lone Star, Jimmie Vaughn Signature, Texas Special made from Indonesian bodies???Good question for the moderator????

That's surprising, for sure.

You bought it new, right? If used, you could have gotten the old switcheroo from the previous owner.

I thought only Squiers were Indonesian-made.

Fender ought to take a serious cue from the PRS SE's. Those Korean-built guitars are nearly 25% the retail price of their MIA counterparts and are beautiful intruments. PRS has their quality control locked down. Even though the subcontractor builds for several other vendors, there's a PRS team controlling every detail of what comes down the line for their brand. and it shows.

Doc

The lite ash strat was a brand new guitar and I've talked to friends with the same guitar that were shocked to see that the body was made in Indonesia. The most important thing was that it's a a** kickin' guitar. That sounded great and played great. I ended up selling it and buying my American shortly after but I liked it, it looked greaT and played superb which was, in the end, the only thing that really mattered

"Lite Ash made in Korea" is all I've ever heard. But then "made in" is a very relative term, in the guitar world or anywhere else. Indonesia is just a modest ship ride away for container-loads of guitar bodies, and I expect labor cost are much cheaper there, these days.

After all, people here spend lots of attention trying to trace the movement of timber and parts - and labor, for that matter - backwards and forwards across the Mexican boarder. I find it very interesting, but I'm not sure how much it matters.

Was it a nice piece of ash? Was the guitar put together properly and does it play and sound well? On the whole, those Lite Ash Strats and Teles are a knock-down bargain, wouldn't you say? Great instrument and a remarkable price - lucky you.

Cheers - C

Own one of the bodies & put an '88 USA neck on it. I have NO complaint but the differense in weight is remarkable. You almost forget you have it on. Considering my '75 Strat & '77 Strat seem to weigh as much as a baby elephant after an hour or so of hanging off your shoulder, Fender may be on to something by persuing this further (hint hint).

As i said earlier, it was agreat guitar...the Seymore Duncan single coils really gave it a nice sound and the Ash body (I had the natural finish) was beautiful..so your point is well taken if the would is light and beautifull who cares where it came from...it was just a surprise to see a made in Korea guitar with a Made in Indonesia body on it....but all in all...a GREAT guitar!
