I like the maple, can't really say why, I just like the look and if I'm not mistaken the 57 original came with only a maple neck, one other reason is you don't have to worry about it drying out. It just feels smoother to me.

which one feels better to you? I personnaly only play maple fretboards as is my preference. Why would you want someone who hasn't played either one to make a judgement for you? Which leads us back to square one. Which one plays better for you. It's disheartening to think you'd let someone else make a decision for you based on a picture. Want us to decide your next girlfriend...send us some photos, we'll do that too!

Like I said, I have my own thoughts on this...
I wanted to know others opinions in hopes of being enlightened somehow.
So the rosewood fretboards are susceptible to drying out & maple fretboards are not?

i choose maple over rosewood everytime its just easier to maintain and in my opinion the majority of colours look better with it, sunburst being the notable exception.

IT can really depend on the guitar. I have seen some Mexican Strats where the maple fretboard felt "sticky" If you oil the rosewood with fretboard juice (lemon oil) every other string change it will last as long as a maple it really is just a matter of feel and sound...some feel the maple board brightens a guitar while a rosewood board softens the tone. Once again it is all personal preference. When I bought my '08 American I played a couple of maples that I would not have bought. It all depends on feel and what YOUR comfortable with. Plays as many as you can until you find one that sings just for YOU! Good Luck!

I have a few of both so here are my two cents:

Most feel that the rosewood board produces a warmer tone while the maple board is brighter. I don't detect enough of a difference that my amps can't compensate for it. Rosewood requires a bit more care as it tends to dry out. Over time, say 10 years or so depending upon how much you play, the maple board discolors and, later still, the finish chips off to expose bare wood.

I prefer maple because I play a lot of Blues and I find it easier to bend strings. I'm sure many people choose one or the other just because of how it looks which isn't a bad way to make the decision. Whichever you choose, it will look beautiful with the sienna sunburst.

Don't over-think your decision and enjoy your Strat.

For some reason, I just don't like the looks of Cherry Sunburst or Sienna Sunbursts on Stratocasters. I guess it's because of too many years of seeing the dark-edged two- and three-toned sunbursts.

But as far as these two go, I like the one with the rosewood fingerboard better than the maple necked one. More contrast in colors, I guess.

LOVE the Sienna Sunburst, what a fantastic choice! 8)

IMO it looks best with Maple, the lighter shade blends better with the sunburst, and just think, as it ages and develops rich patina and honey tones, it'll suit the Sienna Sunburst shades even better! Yum.

And.. er.. no idea on tone, sorry!

I picked rosewood, because I prefer rosewood fingerboards to maple.

But you can pick either!

I have the 08 sienna w/ rosewood on layaway.
It has a 07 serial num on the neck.

They just got a sienna w/ maple in stock.
It has 08 serial numon the neck.
It is not too late to change my mind, I just want to be sure.

I used photoshop to edit 2 of the photos below.
It shows one of my ideas on "blacking it out":

See my idea w/ maple neck:

I already have the rosewood on layaway but could probably easily switch out to the maple at this stage.

You know my answer, but as i said in another forum, I don't think there is an original Fender combination of body colour and fretboard that i don't like.It was also very, very difficult from me to decide. They are right that maple is a bit brighter soundwise ,but you could give this extra brightness through your amp and the other way round. Whichever you get just say to yourself you'got a Fender Strat and you'll be happy.Cheers...

I personally would only own a maple neck, that's my personal preference. I agree with the other poster that there isn't a bad looking Strat. Which one feels better to you? The rosewood will give you a liitle warmer sound and the maple a little brighter sound..which do you like? Which feels better in your hands? which plays better? Evert strat made is a little different than the other. Buy the one that plays the best and feels the best to YOU and make your decision on playability and feel and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise...Just do it! Chosing on other peoples opinion about color and looks is a poor way to make the choice. Go by the feel and palyability and get the one that sings to you

I went with Rosewood on my Sienna Sunburst Am Std. I like the feel better. I didn't realize that I would have to oil the rosewood though, thanks for the heads up guys and gals. Doesn't seem like that big of deal.
