I bought a MIM strat which was nice, but after lurking in the Fender Lounge I decided to get an MIA strat. I could not afford both guitars, so I took advantage of Guitar Centers' 30 day exchange policy. As long as you return the guitar within 30 days of purchase, and it is not damaged or modified, you get a 100% refund including tax. I took my less than 2 week old brown sunburst rosewood MIM strat and exchanged it for a 3-color sunburst maple American Standard Strat. I just had to pay the price difference. Thanks to Guitar Center's July Strat-a-thon, I got the MIA for $100.00 less than the price they where charging when I bought the MIM at the end of June. The MIA is worth the price difference in my opinion (MIA versus MIM), especially when you consider the build and finish, the new hard shell case versus the gig bag (MIM), etc.

Congratulations , I don't think you will regret your decision. MIMs are great guitars but you can't go wrong with getting all of the quality you can afford.

I like my MIM much better than the new MIA's :D
Are you talking about the MIM Standard or one of the "special" ones? Because some MIM's are comprised of American parts, but assembled in Mexico (Classic Players, etc).

Great choice and one you'll alleays be glad you made the Made in America Fender Strats are worth every penny of the difference, the feel of the neck for one is substantially different and the electronics are much better. You won't be sorry, you made a good choice for a GREAT guitar, congratulations!

I would say the most important thing is that you are happy! Congratulations on your new MIA Stratocaster!

im a self confessed cheapie lover i cant stop tinkering with em and i'll admit you get what you pay for. Mia's are superb still adore my squire though.

Makinglemonade im pretty sure its body and neck mia and everything else including assembly is mim on classic players. Its not all american made. I dont think its limited to classic players either. Over the years im sure the've done it on various mim models.

I was pretty sure the Korean made lite ash strat was made in Korea until I took it apart and saw the body was stamped "Made in Indonesia" and that was a Deuxe model $629.00 strat. Don't mean to be contrite, I'm just not convinced until somebody from Fender tells me otherwise.

that may not happen. If its got mim on the headstock and they go saying well some of them are mia it could lead to all kinds of problems. Just think of the logistics of it, it makes good fiscal sense. You pay for wood make 100 or so bodies then decide where those bodies depending on quality are shipped to, priority being custom shop then mia then mim. It works out east too ciJ then miI then miK. with the prices of timber let alone tonewoods its got to be cheaper than binning 20 bodies per 100 may aswell use em elsewhere.

I don't think the poster meant that.

However, I think you would find more "foreign" made parts on a "USA" strat than US made parts on a "Mexico" strat. For example, where are the tuners, pickups, and strings made?

Schaller is from Germany and Ping is Asian-made, no?
Kluson's aren't made in Chicago anymore.

I did the same thing with the 30 day return to Musicians Friend and got the Candy Cola MIA dont regret a thing. The 08 MIA blows away the 08 MIM standard in every way possible.

Congrats on finding the one you love!

I just bought a MIM, and had a hard time even considering spending more than twice that cost on a MIA, especially since being a learner I'd hardly appreciate the difference. :S

Horses for courses, I'm thinking more and more, as I've seen posts on here and in other places in which members swear by their MIM Strat - customised or not - but you'll find the same for any kind of model or brand I think. Music already being such a personal thing as it is surely becomes even more so for a person making music.

Each to their own, and again, big congrats on finding yours, she sounds a beauty! 8)

That's agood point. I think that the Made in Mexico Strat is THE best starter guitar in the world. It's a great guitar to learn on an dmany people swear by them, others will go to great expense to customise their "baby" either way you got youself a beauty and enjoy because in the end it's all about the music and the guitar is just a way of getting there

Hey I got back into playing the guitar about five years ago after about an eight year lay off.

To start back up I bought a MIM Squier from a pawn shop for about $50.00 and thought it was the greatest and it served me well for a while.

The point is that we should all be thankfull that Fender offers such very fine MIM guitars so that that many more kids and adults have a chance to own a VERY high quality guitar to get them started without having to spend a grand.

The MIM Strats of today are indeed all you need, after that its just fine tuning if you will.
