I am looking to purchase real Fender trem springs for my Fender Stratocasters. I need 2 of the black ones that come on American Stratocasters and 2 that come on Mexican Stratocasters. I don't need whole Trem assemblies. I have searched for about 2 days now with no luck. Any help is appreciated!

Musician's Friend sells the springs you need. Here is the link:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=420519

The price is 12 for $5.99. for the official Fender springs. Why you would need 12 springs is anybody's guess.

Is it true those little springs can be bad for the bridge itself?

Thanks for that link torndaoclaw, but that's not what I was talking about...

Here are 2 pictures, one picture with the MIA trem springs circled, and one picture with the MIM term springs circled.

Absolutely standard Fender part: any official Fender dealer can order them. Or Google found these in 0.37 seconds:

https://www.guitarstop.com/acc/parts/bridge.htm

Incidentally, a few months ago someone pointed out that the silver and black springs are manufactured with different tension strengths. There was a great picture of springs with weights hanging on them - but you are going to have to search the Forum for that one yourself.

Cheers - C

bss, if the springs were bad for the bridge I doubt Fender would put them there. Maybe if you tighten the bar down too much its bad, but if you leave some play you should be fine.

I think bss had in mind the little spring beneath the trem arm. On another recent thread nikininja was suggesting that it could contribute to damage on the arm's screw threads.

That is correct Ceri. The quote below is from the post Ceri is referring to:
nikininja wrote:
that trem spring isn't good for the trem block or arm it puts too much presure on the first thread of the arm and socket and leads to the thread being stripped. Detail here -

click strat parts and details for a detailed description.

I guess I got confused trying to follow along.
I still do not understand how damage can occur.

Oh, dear: this is where I come on like a real know-all. What that little spring does is known as an "interference fit": it ever-so-slightly pushes the thread of the arm out of true with the thread in the hole, creating friction. The further down you screw the arm, the more friction and the more stiffly the arm turns.

However, that effect also tends to have a slight sheering action on the threads of the arm: a lot of people will have noticed that over time their trem arm threads get all mushed up, and they'll be wondering why. That's the answer.

Nobody loves a smarty-pants, do they? In my defence, I only happened to read it just the other day in a guitar magazine. I was wondering if nikininja read the same item... Probably he knew it all along. He's the real smarty-pants!

Cheers - C

nope no smartness here, i read it some time back on the callham site and checked it out with friend. who's experience far outweighs mine. Then i ordered a callham trem block. Now i abuse my trem like van halen with a nervous twitch and dont worry about breaking the trem arm. Im waiting on a callham block for my 57hr too thats how much i rate em. If it does 1/10th for the hotrod that it did for my squire i'll be a very happy man.

Fender says that the spring will fall out unless the trem arm is in place, or unless you put a piece of tape over the hole when not in use. Can you see the spring in the hole with a flashlight? I'm not sure if I even have one in there or not.
