thats a difficult repair involving clamping the neck at the 2 ends and moving the clamps to take the twist out. I wouldnt attempt it, not ever. You'd prolly be better off sending it away for repair or buying a new neck.

How does a neck actually get "twisted" anyway?
Moisture exposure? Abuse? I never had one twist on me.

From what i've read I think abuse is one of them like sitting on the neck or leaving something heave on it for long periods of time. Also, some cheap guitar manufacturers(sometimes the expensive manufacturers make this mistake too) have placed the truss rod improperly, like slightly diagonal in the neck. When adjusting the truss rod this causes the neck to twist. Also long exposure to heat(like leaving in the car) can cause it to twist.

All of that. Also, sometimes, though quite unusually, it can just be a duff peice of timber - not the maker's fault; it's impossible to tell till the neck starts to twist.

I agree with nikininja: don't even think of messing with this one yourself.

Two ways to go. Either see if you can become one of Dan Erlewine's very lucky customers and have him fix it for you, cos there is one gentleman you can trust with it. He has the technology.

Or. Now take care here, because I have no first hand experience of this. But if there is indeed an innate fault with your neck - trussrod, timber or whatever - then I believe this is one of the rare occasions when Fender will actually sell you a replacement neck. You have to go through a registered Fender dealer, there are a lot of hoops to jump through, such as taking specific photos of your guitar, its headstock and so forth and then taking the pictures and the guitar to the dealer to get them certified as true. I have a notion that the problematic neck has to be sent away to Fender. And for sure, they will only sell you like-for-like: you can't have a maple 22 fret neck to replace your rosewood 21 fret one.

In any case, this is a situation where you need to speak with Fender Customer Service and take their advice. There may be a solution.

So happens, I was discussing this possibility with another guy on the Forum quite recently, but we haven't heard yet whether Fender did indeed agree to sell him a new neck. So it would be very nice if you came back to us and told us how you get on.

Be good to know if I'm talking twaddle here or not.

Best of luck - C

how old is the strat and did you buy it new and register it. If so isn't neck twist covered in the limited lifetime warranty. Just a thought.

Provided there are no other mechanical issues, with a neck with a rosewood fingerboard, a neck heater might work for it as the heater and associated clamps, wedges, etc, can slip the board's glue joint and reset it under pressure until the fingerboard reseats properly. If it is one piece maple neck, no good. See, regardless, the grains of a piece of wood have a natural proclivity to do what they are going to do and continue to do so. Even planing the neck won't work as that grain will continue to "do it's thing" and eventually, the twist will reemerge. The same holds true with extreme warps. So, the best that can be done is to grind and polish the frets so that the fret playing surface is flat or, if you have a warranty, use it.
