The successor of the American Standards is finally here, available in SSS, HSS and HH configurations.

I see this one shows the same exposed trem rout under the bridge plate.

Another testimonial in support of FMIC's impeccable commitment to QC/QA.

One wonders if they even notice us here on the forum. All this time I assumed they were paying for this party as a way to get feedback, keep their ear on the ground, etc. but now I'm not so sure. If they were listening they'd know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we will examine any new guitar with a magnifying glass and that this boo boo is obvious to the naked eye. A half blind naked eye.
I wonder what we may find once someone breaks out the microscope.

As I posted in the other thread I believe this is actually a conscious decision by Fender to make the rout larger on these bodies. I pulled up a couple of American Elite photos and you can kind of see one there also, and I think there is a gap on a Jeff Beck photo I pulled up as well - but it's more covered by the extreme float of the factory set-up on the Beck.

Perhaps they will come up with a modified bridge plate to cover the hole and raise the price again.

WTF? Does Fender think we are so desperate for a "New" Stratocaster that we would accept this obvious engineering level manufacturing mistake?

I wouldn't care how well it played or sounded won't even think of buying one.

I checked the Fender site and OMG, there is actually a gap!. I would never buy one of these. How cheesy. I don't know the specs on the new bridge design, but I wonder if they're using the old Standard bodies already finished and dropping in the new bridges that are slightly different. That is totally unacceptable. I was having a little buyer's remorse with my 2014 MIA Standard, but not now.

+1

The porch light is on but it seems as though nobody's home.

In the darkest days of the much-maligned CBS era, Fender never built such utter junk. Even the Teisco Del Ray guitar that I started out with some fifty years ago didn't have as many warts as what's coming out of Corona these days.

This "gap" issue bothered me enough to check out my 2014. Sure enough. There's a small gap that I had never noticed until I was actually looking for it. Nothing like the photos I've seen on the new line. After further review, nearly every USA Fender Strat has this issue except maybe the EC and lesser on the vintage. The Jeff Beck is pretty glaring. I guess it's the one size fits all philosophy at Fender. This shouldn't be for a high end American made guitar. How hard is it to make that work? I previously mentioned the streaking, light rosewood from photos of the new line. It's ugly.

OP's really started something here!

Checked my Strats; all OK except perhaps my 2 x 2006's. One has no gap. Other does have a slight gap, albeit you don't notice it. Probably the same as your 2014, Larry. This is assuming you're looking from a 90 deg angle. Nothing like the 'new' gaps, I'm pleased to say, though. I wouldn't be happy with them at all, just looks shoddy.

I sometimes wonder why we buy US Fender with this sort of QC. You'd never see an MIJ Ibanez like that - well, I haven't anyway. Mind you, I wouldn't say Gibson's exactly perfect either. Perhaps you have to go for the 'smaller' builders - Koll, K-Line, Fano, Suhr etc - for a higher quality US product...?

Cheers - Peter.

Or build them yourself.

I've never been overly impressed w/ Fenders early picture/guitar choices.
They almost always have bad looking initial examples of new models.
But obvious gaps like these aren't something I would overlook if making a purchase.
