I'd say the arch on that brow is almost as tall as the rock Ceri stood beside at Stonehenge... Nice color on the guitar Niki. I like daphne blue. Thought about getting a 57 reissue in that color but I'm not fond of the necks on those guitars.

Thankyou it took years of dilligent dedicated training. I even have a series of warmup excersizes if im planning a big arch. :D
The 57neck is a lve it or hate it affair isnt it.

Hey, welcome back old thread! (Newcomers need to check the dates of posts on this page...)

Now we know that's not your guitar, Nikininja. That photo clearly shows Roger Moore!

And seriously for a second, is that color from the same batch of paint (Manchester Guitar Tech, was it?) or is it a new lot? If new, from where and by what name, please?

Cheers - C

Nice job, Nik. These refinishing projects are my favorites on this forum. I wish I had the patience or knowhow to do stuff like this. I'm really looking forward to when these (yours, Ceri's, etc) are finished!

Hi Paullie: stay tuned! I have a feeling there's a couple of other interesting finishing threads coming our way in the next few weeks...

Blimey £4.50 ($6.45): that ain't bad! Even Halfords is about twice that cost I think. I presume that's acrylic is it - it surely can't be nitro for that price?

I'm looking at Carplan's website:

http://www.carplan.co.uk/index.cfm?category=0

I can see their T-Cut (famous on this Forum) but I'm not seeing paint. I didn't know they did it. Must keep an eye out.

Another one for the list!

Cheers - C

Tanvic used to sell it, theres a shop next to tanvic here that just sells paints, filler, oils and polish's as well as car interior cleaners. I'd never seen it before, i avoid the area due to horrendous traffic. As for type i dont know, i did ask the guy in the shop who is also re-finishing his guitar. He and another fella said cellulose, i asked for a data sheet as theres little on the can the data sheet contains nothing either. The ingredients on the can are, aliphatic hydrocarbons and acetone. The website on the can is http://www.tetrosyl.com/index.cfm?page=1
I found less information there than on carplan's site. There is a phone number for em so i'll ring em monday morning.

Yeah, I've found automotive folk very vague about different types of paint. "Do you want it in an aerosol or a can?" is about as far as many of them are prepared to go.

I'm looking at a tin of Behlen's Stringed Instrument Lacquer, which is definitely what we call nitrocellulose. The ingredients on the back include: ethyl acetate, n-butyl acetate, propane, rosin ester, isobutone, acetone, methyl isobutyl ketone, cellulose nitrate, cellulose ester, isopropyl acetate, toluene, isopropanol, isobutyl isobutyrate, castor oil.

(Castor oil?)

So you'll be looking for a list that looks something like that. Confusingly, a lot of those same ingredients seem to be in Behlen's Vinyl Sealer too. I'm sensing the ghost of my chemistry teacher wagging a finger at me and saying, "now don't you wish you'd paid attention in the chemistry class?"

I did learn one useful thing in the chemistry lab. If you connect a Bunsen burner to the water tap you can squirt a thin jet of water right across the room. It was worth the detention...

Cheers - Bart Simpson

Here it is-
[img][/img]

20 smokes gives a pleasantly stained guard. Not quite parchment.

Nice, Nik! Great color. How did you solve the "orange peel"?

TASTY!

Did you clearcoat it in the end or not? And what was your buffing regime?

And tell us more about the gig...!

BTW: I'm confused - is this the MIM that your hands rate as fondly as the CS and the Hotrod? Or is it another?

Anyhow. Well done, that fella!

Cheers - C

Ceri, It got a minimal amount of clearcoat. 2 very light passes, light sand the first with a worn out contour sanding sponge and Tcut the hell out of the last one. My patience wouldnt allow a full glossing. Yep its that mim. I didnt gig it tonight, i'd still like some time for it to settle in. It had a loose neck pocket from new and i've managed to build the paint up in that area so its near unnoticable now. I may gig it wednesday i could do with its tones.

Paulie i just kept on coat, sand, coat and eventually knocked the peel back. Its by no means a good job but looks ok from 4ft away.

Twelvebar, you and me both mate. I've a lot of love for that old heap of metal and wood. Its always been my goto guitar.
