Hello All,

I'm jumping into a tele-strat project guitar and I'm at the point where I'm ether going to cut down a strat neck to look like a tele or fix a tele neck on the strat. In the end I want it to be a good player as far as intonation and sustain. Any thoughts, horror stories, sucsess stories out there?

thanks!

The neck heels are not the same, thus they are not directly interchangeable. The Tele's heel is squared off whereas the Strat body is routed to accept a heel that's radiused. You'll need to reconfigure the body by filling the radiused portion, then routing it square to accept the Tele's neck. Or re-cut a Strat neck's headstock to resemble a Tele. A vertical milling router and a steady (emphasis on steady) hand will be required for the latter option.

You can also get bodies made by companies such as Warmoth with alternate neck pockets.
Meaning you can have them make you a Strat body with a Tele neck pocket and vise versa.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I'd recommend hand tools for this, by a luthier with plenty experience with hand tools. Compass planes, finger planes and hand routers are more precise than any motorized router (try shaving off 0.001" with a router, or route so precise you don't need a sander).
But in either case, the work might cost more than the neck.

That said, putting a tele neck on a strat is not unprecedented:

Everything is possible since Eric Clapton had put Brownie's neck into a Custom Telecaster body.
