I have a 1995 American Standard Stratocaster in tri-color sunburst with a maple fingerboard. Bought it a year ago in new condition. Sounds great, and stays in tune really well.

I want to do a couple upgrades. I like the bridge on the new Stratocaster / the more solid block with the bent steel bridge pieces. If the new model had pickups I really want, I'd sell my guitar and buy the new one.

Mod 1: Gonna put in new pickups. Probably the Dimarzio prewired pickgaurd set with their "Area" noiseless pickups. It's hard to find anyone who doesn't like these pickups. I'm a blues style, classic rockish player.

Mod 2: Here's where I need some input. I want to ditch my current tremelo with it's crappy metal for a bridge like the new Stratocaster. I could go with a Callaham, but they're SOOOO expensive. Anyone here using the Wilkinson Goto VS100 tremelo? It's priced right, and it looks like it has good steel parts with more mass than the stock. I'm not a big tremelo user...just occasional use with moderate travel, so I only need it to function as well or a little better than stock...MAINLY I want better steel for more sustain and strat jingle jangle like the new improved Fender.

thanks

I very much like the VS100 and have used many of them. The VS400 is nice, too. Read more on this recent thread:

anything trev wilkinson puts his name to is quality. I read an article on him where he explained that every strat guitar he designs (italia/fretking/vintage icon) he checks against a 62 strat he's had forever, and says if he cant make it better than the stock 62 part in question he scraps the re-design idea.

For blues, I put Texas Specials in my '95 - '96 MIA and they sound great. The SRV-ish songs on my site (see sig) were recorded with the Specials ("Sky..." thru a tube amp and "Texas Flood" and "Little Wing" thru the Line6 I played before I got the Bassman).

I own a similar 93 (3 color sunburst) American Strat with a maple fretboard...
I still have the original neck but I put a custom neck on it (bacodi wood).
I have been looking at the tremKing, although I have never actually played one.
It seems like a really cool design, especially for a strat in a live setting.
You can vids on youtube as well.
