Hi All,

I apologise in advance if this post is not allowed or in the wrong section.

I purchased the below strat about 6 yrs ago and never got around to using it. Now I want to sell it but don't know much about it or anything about guitars for that matter... :?:

Does anyone know what model it is? And how much I would be able to sell it for? (it has some light scratches on back of the body)

The serial says MN518385 and says 'Made In Mexico'

Thanks in advance!

You'll be trying to tell me that Rory Gallagher's Strat shows signs of minor wear ....

Right. Light scratches would be ones that do not penetrate the lacquer nor deform the wood. It also looks like it has a crack at the belly cutout.

If it was purchased 6 years ago, it must have been used, or sitting in the store for five years. Neither of which does much good for the value.

I'd say in its current condition, if that isn't a crack and just a bad photo, perhaps $250.
If it is a crack, perhaps $150 as parts.

Considering how robust the black polyester can be (my 21 year old MiA looks almost new with no special treatment) this one seems to have had a serious hammering.

While Strats are worth more in the UK I would be inclined to agree with the valuations noted above. If in doubt see what guitars are selling for on eBay.

Argh, you're hitting a pet peeve of mine here. I'm so frustrated with people (especially on eBay and CL) who describe things as mint, and clearly are lying. Why would I want to buy something from a liar?
Even the lightest of friction wear anywhere and an item is not mint. Period.
Similar with "as new". Oh, it's both mint and comes with a warranty then? No? Then how, exactly, is it "as new"?

Thanks to Guitar Center for at least not having a "mint" category, and for calling used instruments "used" instead of "pre-owned". They may be overpriced, but at least you have a smaller chance of being outright swindled.
