Ok, admittedly I'm a newbie to the world of Strats, having owned my one and only (2007 MIM Strat) for just a few months. I love it and my dream is to one day own an MIA Standard to go along with it.

I had heard/read so many good things about the new MIA Standards that I thought I'd go to GC today at lunch and give one a test drive. All I can say is WOW! It encompasses everything I love about my MIM Standard and then some. Comfortable, ergonomic, extremely good looking, and my oh my does it sound and play great. I can definitely tell a difference between the pups in my MIM and the ones in the MIA. I love mine but these were even more Strat-like. I also really liked the fact that the tone controls actually work for the bridge pup. What a difference that makes.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share some stream-of-consciousness thoughts on the MIA Standard. Any owners of the new ones out there that might want to share their opinions?

I started with a MIM strat and now have an 08 MIA standard and I love everything about it. i read several threads talking about how the MIM is the same qualitiy and people cant tell the diffeerence, I'm sorry but that was not my case. Compared to the American the mexican feels unfinished and does not have the nice warm strat sound. Those are takes on how they compare to me. I have played many years and do understand all guitars are not the smae so I could have gotten a dud MIM, but one thing is a fact my MIA Candy Cola is a winner in looks, sound, features and feel.

That feelings start when you put the MIM in its gig bag and take out the MIA from its nice fresh molded case. For the $900.00 I payed new for the MIA it can't be beat in that price range by any other guitar.

I don't like the '08 MIA's...something with the neck just doesn't feel right...I have an older MIA though and I love it.

Bought my first strat new in 1989...
1989 black MiA. Since then I have always owned & played strats.
I am experienced... lol ...with strats too lol
My older brother & I started our rock band in like high school.
We toured the eastern U.S. & opened for many known rock groups.
(Ranging from bands like Saigon Kick, Marilyn Manson to Johnny Winters, & others...)
Some songs here: ExplorationX
I totally agree with you raf66.
IMhO the new MiA strat plays, sounds, & feels better than almost all their MiM cousins I have encoutered. From what I have played around here in Florida at stores and elsewhere (which is alot of guitars and models) the MiA's in general seem to be more consistant from guitar to guitar.
...craftsmenship, parts, wiring, &/or something...
But I am very happy to see these MiM strats personally...
I give the MiM strats in general my seal of approval (just for the record), especially for the price.
With that said...
I finally picked out these two mia's I am buying brand new...

1 is a deluxe HSS FMT with S-1 switching & Alder Body
the other is a standard HSS withOUT S-1 Switching & Ash Body.

Please don't get me wrong . . . I love my MIM Strat. In fact, I've been playing it for the last couple of hours. But man oh man does that MIA Standard really do it for me. Now to come up with the $1,000. Anyone want to buy two children? One's 16 and the other is almost 12. They'll eat you out of house and home but they are potty trained.

I have an '08 American Std. I never played a MIM one before, how are they? Are they close in sound? :)

3-Tone, my '07 MIM with maple fb sounds very similar and the neck seems a little more narrow, but the MIA just has a little more oomph to its sound. I don't know any other way to describe it. Plus you get a tone control for the bridge pup, which makes a difference. The one I played was a 3 tone sunburst with maple fb which may have been the prettiest strat I've ever seen.

Just picked up my '08 MIA std, Sienna Sunburst. I'm not going to be putting this thing down anytime soon. Never played a MIM, but my first guitar was a Korean Epiphone "strat", and it looked like a strat and got me into strat style guitars, but that is where the similarities end. Nothing like the real thing.

This was my first real Fender and, I always had that thing, well.....you know when you're loyal to a brand or type of something? Fender wasn't one of them. And especially a single coil pup.....UGH!

I guess the tone was the main point of me contention because of the style I layed. Metal, Rock , hard rock. That and tuning stability. I could never get a Strat to stay in tune. (Igo back to the 70s when there weren't locking tuners)

But this guitar is absolutely everything I could ask for. It plays like butter and actuyally stays in tune- LOL too. The tone from the SCN pups is so versatile I can go from shredding to blues to clean and it sounds soooo clear.

Thanks, Fender - Your on the top of the game in my book :D

similar experience for me too. I owned several deans (before they went bad) jackson/charvels a couple of esp's a load of rack effects and 2 plexi's from the late 80's till 94 which i ended up selling (a different more boring story) and completely quitting guitar. A friend of mine gave me a encore strat (the cheapest of cheap) in 96 and after 11 years of berating the strat decided i was going to buy myself one. So i went and got myself a fender logo'd squire and never looked back. Ive tried several times to revert back to supestrats and monster rig's to find im never happy with the sound even for metal. Theres an attack that humbuckers just dont have in em. I still have a couple of metal guitars but i just dont play em anymore.

Welcome to the obsessive/compulsive fender owners club.

The 08 MIA Strats absolutely ROCK!! IMO the best strat ever. I have a MIA Deluxe Ash Strat with the SCN's S-1 switching (LOVE IT!!) and Locking tuners...give that baby a try you may never paly another...all 08's have the new SKB case that's like carrying around a lightweight Fort Knox for your strat. The cases sell at musicians friend for $189.00 it's called an SKB 66

my 08 strat has actually changed my playing style. i've played on an sg and a telecaster for awhile. playing on my new start feels so freaking clean. completely different vibe than the other two.
