LOL! Some of you guys act like it's impossible to get a good sound out of a Squire guitar.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not...the right person can set up ANY guitar to sound decent with the right amp and effects, etc... (ever seen B.B. King, Les Paul, or Jack White play a cigar box with a 2x4 for a neck).

Give Angus Young a $179.00 Epiphone SG and I bet he can make that booger scream to the point that you wouldn't even tell the difference if you didn't see the name on it.
Spot on. A good player can make anything sound good.

I think the only point John was making, perhaps, is that a pro is rarely seen onstage with a 'cheap' guitar (assuming it was a Squier)! As you say, there are exceptions - Jeff Healey I've mentioned - and what about Prince's Tele? Neither had much problem getting great sounds from allegedly inferior guitars. Good for them! No, I'm no fan of the sniffy attitude either!

Cheers - Peter.

If it has Squire on the headstock it's a fake too!

Or an expensive Chris Squire signature model.

Uh oh ... Yes flashback in progress. Chris Squire was a monster bassist. Okay, flashback over ...

Did anyone tell him?

Glad you found it funny; afraid I didn't.

You've never been to a Jeff Healey concert. He would crack jokes like that all the time, like "I got a new blue guitar!" (it wasn't), and "Be safe folks, don't drink and drive. I don't."

He was certainly one of the best, and left way too early.

That's why I don't visit this forum as often as I used to, Art. Too many people with a bug up their arse. 2007-8 or so, it was fun, and more forgiving. Today, it seems the new users want you to be politically correct, instead of talking about Fender stuff and having a good time.

So you no longer like this forum because you don't like people expressing their opinion about other people's opinion?

To get this right for those who apparently think there's something wrong with me, I have never liked mocking the afflicted. If you do, that's a matter for you, but I don't. There's a bloke on the Amps forum who poked fun at Down's Syndrome children - I found that similarly distasteful.

If the disabled want to mock themselves, that's up to them.

FYI, (1) I saw Jeff twice - don't recall any self-directed jokes, and (2) I am absolutely the last person to be PC. I don't consider expressing disgust at sick jokes to be PC. (3) I think this is the first time I have commented adversely on something non-Fender-related, rjake, unless you know better?

Perhaps we could now get back to discussing Strats?

Cheers - Peter.

Getting back to the original topic I think whatever works for you be it Squier or some other. Some guys play crap guitars and sound good others play good guitars and sound crap but so long as you enjoy yourself within reason there is no issue. :D

In the Gibson forums you can see a lot of topics Gibson vs Epiphone (similar to Fender / Squier discussions here). In the later time you can see more and more artists using Epiphones in every concert (Annihilator, Trivium, BMTH to name a few) or even from time to time (Metallica, Iron Maiden). I think a lot of artists, especially when they have grown above the proof of who they are, don't care anymore what is on the headstock and what eventually some people could think, as soon the instrument is nice.

A Squire instead of its bigger brother? Well, out of sight there's the fake cabs and the little amp going to the PA on some of the biggest stages from some of the biggest artists. Programs such as Pro Tools may contribute to the live performance adding to the mystique. As in the past, nameplates are not necessarily the real goods. I know and agree that an artist may choose a less expensive instrument because it has a personal liking (it might even be an emotional attachment); but, it is also true that attaching one's name to that gear can also be an incentive. "Smoke if ya got 'em", they say.

Next time you enjoy a new or old recording of another, you may not know the electronics used. You will know if you like it or not, however. :D

I'd bet that it was tricked out (modified) and played/sounded as well
as Joe Walsh's Squier that he uses at times.

Just because it says Squier on the headstock means the only reasonable conclusion is that it has a Squire transfer on the headstock yes?
