I was watching the ELO Hyde Park gig on the TV again last night and spotted something that took my breath away.

Apparently, one of the guitarists was playing a Squire

Lights blue touch paper and retires to a safe distance.

If it has Squire on the headstock it's a fake too!

Perhaps a good way to stop your Strats getting nicked is swap the Fender for a Squire Logo

I was being pedantic about the spelling.
It should have Squier on the headstock, hence my comment about a Squire being a fake

Or an expensive Chris Squire signature model.

Your eyes are better than mine, John, if you can read Squier or Squire or anything else on that headstock!

Still, if it is, as I'm fond of saying, Jeff Healey did pretty well with his!

Cheers - Peter.

I couldn't really see it in the picture, it was just by way of note really, but I did on the TV.

Looking at the headstock that appears to be a Japanese made JV Squier. These have very little in common with the lower end Squiers of today. The JV series were high quality instruments

I have always assumed when you see an artist playing what you think is a low end instrument, it is really an advertising ploy.
people will buy what they see others play. so if Fender or other company gives an artist a guitar that says Squier even though all the internals and woods etc are not "squier" esque. people will say wow, must be good guitars.

or it could be like the other poster said and it is actually a great guitar, not the low ender of today.

I don't know if it was one of the BBC guys or someone from Take That but if he's playing with Jeff Lynne he could probably make a broomstick with Hondo pickups sound good.

"The Beast" and... http://www.berniemarsden.co.uk/gallery/index.php?c=show&f=Image5.jpg&d=Guitars

It would seem he has a couple of early (Lace Sensor) EC's as well. 8)

At any rate, that was a good show!

LOL! Some of you guys act like it's impossible to get a good sound out of a Squire guitar.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not...the right person can set up ANY guitar to sound decent with the right amp and effects, etc... (ever seen B.B. King, Les Paul, or Jack White play a cigar box with a 2x4 for a neck).

Give Angus Young a $179.00 Epiphone SG and I bet he can make that booger scream to the point that you wouldn't even tell the difference if you didn't see the name on it.
