Wow, Jimi with a Floyd Rose locking tremolo!

Just think!

he used to hit the back of the neck whilst manipulating the trem too. If you do it right it gives the 'eerie desert wind' sounds he used sometimes and is absolutely undefeated in the annoying the neighbours race.

And Floyd Rose invented his gizmo to meet the needs of Randy Hansen, for whom he was a tech, and who earned his bread as - a Jimi Hendrix impersonator.

Which of course proves nothing. But it's a nice coincidence.

Right, and I still have the old Guitar Player magazine where I first read about Randy Hansen and that gizmo that Mr. Rose made for him.

I have a couple of his LPs, but it's too bad Randy didn't really make it big. Now if he had thrown in some Texas Blues, he could have been SRV!??!

are there any floyd mods you can make. I love the system have 2 jacksons purely for metal that have floyd liscensed trems on but they detract from the tone so much their only any good for metal and other gain saturated stuff. Ive got a kahler too and thats worse, it operates better but sounds dead.

On the hendrix theme. forget what he'd have done with a floyd imagine what would have happend when jimi met cubase,line6, amplitude, the digitech whammy or any of the other gadgets we have at our disposal. I really couldnt see him being a tube or brand snob in that scenario. The only reason he played marshall was because they were the loudest most reliable things around at the time. He recorded axis with a fender amp and used a complete mix of amps on ladyland. He never made any negative comments about amps or guitars he didnt like to my knowledge, he saw everything having a place and a use. Nostalgia is great and i love some of the stuff fender are doing these days with guitars and amps being historicaly correct, and its a master stroke of good business to have the companies they now own producing more experimental stuff.

I saw him numerous times headlining a small venue. I think he was greatly over-rated. That is just my opinion. Hopefully his mother does not read this forum...

I guess that could explain why he isn't among the guitar gods.

i hadn't heard of randy hansen so i just checked him out on youtue. his tone is spot on. His performance is good too. The only reason i can see for him not being more popular is that alittle too close to hendrix, Every notable hendrix cover has been done with the artists own twist. examples of which are claptons little wing, Alanis morrisette if6was9 and love it or hate it nigel kennedy's purple haze. However accurate or inaccurate they are you know its not Hendrix. This fellahs the opposite end if you just heard it instrumentaly you'd be hard pressed not to think it was hendrix. It seems a bit spooky when you hear the sound and see its not the real deal performing. Its obviously a labour of love for him.

That's been Randy's thing for 30 years: doing Hendrix spot on.

And that's what stopped him. I have his first LP of original material from 1980 ... and it's good! I liked it, but he never followed up on it, but that could be due to lack of record company support, etc, etc.

Thats a real shame, the blokes a tone monster.

Stupid record companies telling us what we should be listening to again. Does America still have independent record shops that will stock local independent artists stuff? There all but extinct in the uk, its a real shame you can find some real jems among that stuff.

well it may be not a great argument, but as a mexican when i buy my fender, i choose a mexican standard, even that i could afford the american standard, i choose it because i played both and i don't feel any difference, and well i love my country and makes me feel pride to have such an incredible guitar mexican made
and about the guy who said that both mexican and us workers are lazy and stupid, well first of all you must respect specially when is about workers of a country you don't know and you don't live on it, as an example in the city of paracho in mexico where lots of acoustic guitars are made you see the old people and the young people working together with such dedication and love in all of the guitars they sell, that the last thing you imagine is they are lazy and stupid.

nothing wrong in supporting your own nations economy. Balanced national pride is the foundation of a great nation.

you get what you pay for. personally i do not like MIM's at all, there is in fact an extreme difference in quality between MIM and MIA. Usually when you hear "there is no difference between MIM and MIA" its because that person owns an MIM or they enjoy being sacrilegious.

There is a difference in quality. There would have to be to have that difference in price! However, the word "extreme" is subjective and your opinion. That is what the MIM-freaks will argue about.

Disclaimer: I am not a MIM strat player. I have tried their necks on partsocasters and find them to be reasonable quality replacement necks.
