Two highly passionate posts there, which in itself is excellent. We all feel very strongly about our instruments, don't we, which is why we are all here?

These two posts prompted me to re-read the entire thread. I'm not sure anyone is really disagreeing so much with anyone else. We all feel that Strats are fantastic instruments at a given price point. As far as I can see nobody actually thinks Mexican's do inferior work, especially as from other threads it appears the Corona factory also has a goodly proportion of people of Mexican origin working at it.

I was also trying to extend that principle to other factories around the world: many people on this Forum have very fine Fender guitars from Japan, for instance.

Indeed, I don't even think the post that set things off quite means what it may seem. Not for me to speak for him, of course, but I think nicholsoni was really trying to say that the Mexican work force is just as good as the American one - albeit he found a particularly, mmm... laconic form of words to express that idea:

I think that MIM strats today are just fine...no reason to spend an extra grand to have it made in America.

Besides, I'm surprised that no one has noticed that american workers are just as lazy and stupid as any in Mexico, so you can't say the workmanship is that great.

Peace, ladies and gentlemen. We all love our Fenders, wherever they are made, and we all greatly appreciate the people who design and make them - right back to the start. Its a great company, and a truly great instrument.

Respect to everyone.

G'night all - C

There is an old joke about MIA vs MIM Fenders (I don't remember where I first read it): the MIA Fenders are made by Mexicans in California, while the MIM Fenders are made by Mexicans in Mexico.

That's a little softer than the above "lazy/stupid" comment, but not much.

I've seen that quote attributed to Leo, but he was long gone from his old company when the Ensenada plant opened so I'm not sure if it's an apocryphal story or not.

Anyway, I get another chance to plug the "Deluxe" MIM products. Love my Inca Silver Powerhouse Strat.

I think that too.

I also think that "klunkerbill" ought to edit out some of his language a bit better ... just leaving out one letter from inappropriate & offensive language doesn't make it appropriate or inoffensive.

Here's a link to the Ensenada Factory tour. It's a pretty cool glimpse inside.

Uh, okay, but you haven't edited the offending words out of your rant!?!?

When the Moderator does it, it looks like this:

That is a good photo tour. An even better, and more recent one, is

http://picasaweb.google.com/meridianmus ... ryTour2006

where one can see that electric neck production is well underway.

Ah, so that's how that story ended up. Thought I hadn't seen that gentleman around for a few days.

I'd had a notion there might be more to his story than met our eyes - but Makinglemonade has expressed (reasonable) doubts over the possibility of diagnosing guitar problems on the internet, so I sure ain't going to try interpreting other kinds of issues here!

Hey-ho. Onwards...

i didn't read page two or three so some of this might have already been said but oh well.

I find that MIM stats are just as high quallity as MIAs as far as the wood working goes, i myself actually like how there necks feel better than MIAs. they only difference is that the MIMs dont get as high of qaullity electronics so the dont sound as greats as american strats. but i think it more important to get a guitar that feel good to play then sounds awesome, you can change how it sounds but you can't change whether it feels right or not.

also as far as factory workers go im sure that most luthiers are highloy skilled at their proffesion no matter where they live. but as far as the general american workers vs mexicans workers go i would have to say that mexicans are much better workers.

and finally another reason why MIM strats are less expensive is not because they are poor qaulity but because the amount the people who make them get paid is much less. D: its not that fair really.

i can safely say that now owning a squire (that i always thought was a mexican fender, figure that one out!) and an american strat, my next purchase is most likely going to be a mexico. That factory tour realy impressed me. Did you notice how clean the place is? I cant even change strings without making the place look a tip.

Yes, he stormed off in a huff. The unseen story? I don't know, I didn't see the flame war that usually precedes such huffs. Maybe it got deleted by the kind Moderator.

You got that right it appeared to be a flameless departure but who knows.

Here's one professional, the group Los Lonely Boys.

And how about Jimmie Vaughan?

its name snobbery that has kept production and innovation back decades. If hendrix was still around do you think he'd be buying custom shop relic's or vg's. i personaly think he'd of gone roland ready then parker with a roland pickup. The reason he chose the strat was because at the time it had the most diversity, imagine what he'd do with a modern arsenal. He definatley wouldn't care where it came from.

This is from a aritcle just out about Jimi it is as follows. The missing back plates is down too Jimi's disire to play the springs , they were conected to the tremolo block so there audible if you hit them. He used to hit the springs and then dive bomb using the tremolo arm, this guy left no part of a Startocaster untouched and that includes the strings behind the nut where he would produce a sound like F14 planes falling from the sky. The nut itself is another testament to Jimi,s handy work Instead of putting a reverce nut he would get a nail file out and open out the space were he wanted the E string to go. he would use .010 to .038 strings back then you couldent get lighter strings Another thing I reckon he did was a common trick of buying regular set of strings , chucking the bass E in the bin using a banjo G instead for the first E and moving all the other string up one position. And the story goes on with more stuff. I think Jimi would still be playing a Strat because he nu what to do with it . There is also stuff about his other guits the gibby flying V, Zemaitis 12 string,, Gibson Lp, Martin d45, Supro ozark all that he play a times. So I think he would be playing some others now also but the Strat would most likely be the main axe.
