I bought my Mex Strat for just under $300.00, I think I made a good buy, it sounds great, and feels great. I just don't know the difference between the Mexican made and American made Strat. Can somebody fill me in? Thanks

Depends...

A MIM Std vs MIA Std:

Different bridges, MIA has a finished neck, I've heard the woods differ to an extent, different electronics (I've heard), and supposedly Mex bodies use more "blocks" (I'm assuming that's why they're heavier?).

I just picked up a "Custom SHop Designed" Mex last night and the only visible differences between that and my 95-96 MIA Std are the paint, the fretboard woods (maple vs rosewood), the newer bridge, and the neckplate.

They both have a very similar feel, although they're sounds will greatly differ once I'm thru with the Mexi.

I do not think that is right. For 06+, I think the only differences are the bridge, pickups, number of frets, and (I think) color availability.

EDIT: Yes, AND a finished neck.

If it cost less than 300 used, I'm assuming it's pre-2006? Could be wrong...

None of the Mexican Fenders I played at GC last Friday had a finished neck and were much heavier than their MIA counter-parts.

There is a diference in like the Deluxe power Strat has 21 fret American has 22 frets the American has Delta tone system deluxe does not American has 2 point sync bridge with steel saddles deluxe has 6 saddle fishmen. American rolled finger board I do not think the deluxe have that the American also has some kind of bi-flex truss rod system which is not the same. They have different finishes as well and pickups. Thats comparing the Deluxe power strat to Amer. Std. there is more.

Yeah, I was lookin' at the Deluxe Players Strat before I got the American Std; the Deluxe doesn't have the finished neck, along with different pickups, wiring, and bridge. I like the gold hardware, though...

You got youself a nice guitar. I try to stay informed on what is different between them. I do rigging work and on the side I do work on guitars for a little extra and now I am out on leave for a med reason so I have been doing it a little more lately. I go to pawn shops estates sales and anyplace you can think to find guitars Just last night I bought my son a used Gibby335 ouch my wallet but it was his birthday and he has got me for 6 guits last year or two. I was trying to get a Tokia Springy Sound the dude had but no go there.

I played the Roadhouse MiM... What a great guitar...
It gave me the fever for the flavor of a new strat! LOL
So I started comparing the Roadhouse to the Lonestar.
It was the price point that got me going for such a great guitar.
After studying way too much & playing many many strats.
I went with the American Standard over the MiM...
I will probably change the pickups on it too...
The newer elements on the MiA are just better in my opinion.
Like the trem on MiA Standard:
(Vintage style Saddles with a 2 point trem)

Trem to the MiM (vintage style w/ 6 screws)

22 frets is nice too.

I actually like the 6-screw better than the 2-point; it has the more authentic "vintage" look. The "Custom SHop Designed" MiM's have the 2-point; picked one up last night that I would swear was MiA if it weren't for the MZ next to the serial on the back of the stock. It's the Classic Players 50's, with a nicely finished neck, sick 2-Tone / Tobaccoburst paint, and a beautiful maple fretboard. Also comes packed with '57/'62 pups, but I'll be swappin' those out for EMGs... All in all, it has a very similar feel to my MiA Std ('95 - '96) and they will stand proudly side-by-side as my main 2 ladies =]

Now to figure out a name for the new addition...
