Without knowing anything about your sources you need to be careful about issues surrounding copyright and trademark infringments. Illegal use of the Fender logos are taken quite seriously in this forum and, although we would not want to rain on your parade, because your design shows promise, if Fender did not build your guitar, do not represent it as such by having the company logo displayed. You will have to be satisfied with a generic 'strat-type' instrument and I use that term specifically because Fender owns a wide range of trademarks on 'words' which we tend to throw around easily.
Enjoy your hobby, but remember your audience and the platform you choose to speak from.

Doc.

the neck is a real fender neck which is the reason I got it as opposed some cheaper necks. all the parts im making my guitar out of are real fender parts. im nuying them all from a actual reliable source.

the fender logo on my neck was put there by fender not a counterfitter.

maybe i dont know anything though. does the guitar actually have to be put togeether by fender? or can it just be made out of fender parts?

The trees cause the strings to feed into the tuners at a sharper angle, relative to the nut, which helps prevent them from rattling.

Yep. One of the rare drawbacks of Leo Fender's design is that the flat headstock doesn't allow quite enough of a "breaking angle" over the nut to keep the high strings from jumping out of their slots when playing firmly.

But. Stringtrees introduce another point of friction which can be a factor in bad intonation, helping to prevent the string returning to pitch after vibrato use or heavy string bending. Which is why the Eric Johnson Strat does away with the tree.

A modern solution (including the EJ Strat) is tuners with staggered height pole pieces - though contemporary American Strats with staggered machines still have the string tree as well - go figure.

The neck pictured on this thread has had a locking nut fitted (and mysteriously removed) and so there is no need for a stringtree. The way that fingerboard is shaped in the nut region you are not going to be fitting a normal nut, even if you want to. It's a locking nut for you: so no need for a stringtree.

Cheers - C

It does. Which makes you think that locking nut was an after-thought. I wonder if that was why the original owner ended up selling it? Not the way I've ever wanted to go...

April of 2007 I went into my local shop with every intention of buying a MIA Strat, cash I might add. I played a few and they played and sounded exactly as I expected - quite nice.

I kept seeing this Ash Strat from across the room which one of the employees had just put on the floor. To make a long story short, I decided to check it out. This one out sung, out sustained and out played all the others. Lo and behold, it was a MIM! I bought it instead of a MIA because that's how much it impressed me. And except for a few tiny cosmetic changes, the only thing major I did was to replace the pickups. To this day, I am 100% happy with it and have absolutely no urges for a MIA nor any regrets for not buying one in the first place. I know I have an excellent instrument, have nothing to prove to anyone and that's all that counts as above all, I'm the only one who has to play it.

Without offending anyone, I think there's quite a few people that feel the same way. After reading your post, I decided to tell this story. There's a little shop near me that I had no idea existed until I drove by it and noticed it out of the corner of my eye (I was headed to the Bank), I continued driving and after a few blocks decided to make a u-turn and drop in a take a peek. Nice place, great staff, and they had a few "gems" hanging on the wall. There was an 07' Blackie, and a 06' Vintage White/Maple board Fat Strat . I really don't need anymore strats, but you know how that GAS can be. I test drove the FS, it was VERY nice, I had to talk myself out of not getting it, and the only reason that justified that, was I copped another Black "Fatty" just a few weeks earlier from another PS (04' Mint, with a bad jack.....replaced the jack, cleaned Her up, and still can't believe my luck).

Not sure if that 06' was of the upgrade variety (can't remember the quals for this), but I keep thinking about that Guitar. One of the salesman indicated it was his favorite in there, which prompted me to ask if they'd drop at least a hundred off for any fretware.......although the frets were fine. I'm going back there tomorrow, if it's still there I MAY pull the trigger. How can I justify getting that one, when I have the 04'. Man, that thing played like butter. And I still hear it calling me.......nightly. The 98' I have, simply put is a BEAST!

The bottom line is that the Fender logo is only allowed to be there for Fender-constructed guitars. Even the necks that Fender sells as piece parts do not have the Fender logo. That makes having a Fender logo on your piece-part guitar is copyright infringement. I have seen previously where similar threads have been shut down and locked with similar discussions.

Whatever you do is your own business. But I suggest this not be discussed any further in this forum. "Dad" is likely reading this ... and the topic is no doubt pissing him off... haha
